History of Rush

Little bigger today than it was when it was founded,archaeological evidence suggests that Rush wassettled as far back as the Neolithic era. Many artefacts have been discoveredin the area, including ancient burial chambers just off the coastline. Today, Rushis a popular destination with tourists, thanks to it stunning beaches and purecoastline.

Extensiveand sandy, Rush’s beaches are a popular attractionat any time of the year. On a summer’s day you could to head to the beach witha good book. In winter, you can take a walk that will blow the cobwebs away.The beaches are also backed by large sand dunes, isolating the area from the outsideworld.

Kitesurfingin Rush

Thesouthern end of the beach in Rush is extremelypopular with kitesurfers, one of Ireland’s fastest growing extreme sports. Funto watch, but even more fun to have a try! Drumanagh Headland

History lovers should definitely head out to Drumanagh,just north of Rush. Home to an Iron Age fort aswell as an imposing 19th century Martello tower, Roman artefacts havealso been discovered in the area. Archaeologists keenly debate whether or notthe Romans settled here, or if Rush was simply atrading post. Either way, with outstanding views over the Irish Sea, it’sdefinitely worth a visit.

Culturein Rush

Youcould always soak up a little culture in Rush’s localMillbank Theatre. Ranging from local contemporary talent to more traditionalpieces, the Millbank has a promising selection of musical events. Also home tothe Rush Theatrical Society, the theatre hostsfive shows a year, renowned in the area for their professionalism.
