"The house itself was beautiful and the host along with the housekeeper were very responsive. The pool was not heated as indicated in description. We enjoyed freshly baked bread the host provided during our stay. The bathroom sometimes had a sewer smell and required us to open and air the house out. They will be correcting the plumbing issue that resulted in fresh water flow from the toilet during our stay. They were very responsive in the clean up. "

"Room was very spacious and check-in staff was super nice. We got a welcome drink and excellent recommendations for tours and things to do. Pool access is with reservations but totally worth it and super relaxing. Gorgeous cellar, little shop and art collection. Beautiful breakfast dining room and excellent food selection."

"João, Carla and the great kitchen and cleaning staff went the extra mile to make our one week stay comfortable. The room we got was an upgrade because we had found the first room’s bathroom uncomfortably cramped. The room we got was an extra story to climb stairs but João insisted that he carry our bags. He was also super helpful with ideas and bus connections. The large windows opened wide in the evenings to let fresh cool air in. If we had to be inside during the day, the AC could cool the room down in minutes. The bed and bathroom shower were roomy and comfortable. Daily room service left the place neat and tidy when came back from our daily adventures. "

"We were staying in the new block, rooms 901 to 923. Lovely rooms very spacious and comfortable. The pool looked lovely but we didn't use it, it was not quite warm enough at the end of March. But on a really hot day it looked fab. The rooftop jacuzzi was lovely but with the top deck being overlooked by the building work going on next door it was not a very condusive space to spend too much time. Also the whole time we were there the bar on the rooftop was not open, I'm sure it would have been lovely with great views of the city. The breakfasts were of a really good quality, an extensive buffet every day with a degree of variety. I would go here again but would warn about the very extensive building works behind the hotel. Location wise the hotel was good to get back to if you had a car but if walking you need to allow a good 20 minutes to get to Funchal and 30 minutes to get back."
