"This is a wonderful place to spend a day or two if you are looking for a characterful and charming hotel. It has comfortable facilities, is family and dog friendly and is in a fantastic location. Our room had a gorgeous sea view from a large picture window and was lovely and spacious.
Staff are friendly and approachable and do their very best to assist with any queries or issues.
Knoll House smacks of 1940's nostalgia, with a relaxing ambiance but could use a touch of TLC. Just a few bits and bobs require attention as a little tired in places; a few mod cons such as air conditioning and integrated charging points would be great, but nothing that would be a game changer for us. Also more Plant Based hot buffet options such as sausages, hash browns and tofu scramble as standard would be nice.
We had an enjoyable stay nonetheless and we would definitely stay again. We have no hesitation in recommending it to others."
"Room was spacious, great shower. However the room we were in (an upgraded room) was over the kitchen and every morning at 7am something started up and all we could hear was the hum of it which is annoying when you would like a lie in.
We ate both nights in the pub. The food is good but very pricey. On our 2nd night we both had a special which was gammon, 1egg, chips, pinapple and piccalily. I pointed out that it said two eggs but we only got one each. The waiter was apologetic but just said it hadnt been passed to the chef but now he knew everyone else would get 2 eggs! I would have expected to have a small reduction in price or something complimentary (soft drink or coffee) as an apology but nothing was offered. Also they added on a service charge on both nights which i wasnt impressed with. It should be up to the diner to decide if service is worth a tip."
"Absolutely brilliant staff! Thank you. Very clean, beautiful location and during the heatwave, the buildings were cool! Just noise from the nearby road disturbed the tranquillity at times."
"Stunning location and very friendly, helpful staff. Room decent but a bit small. Could do with a fan as no air conditioning. No lift and don't recommend this area or property if you have mobility issues.
You have to pay for breakfast and drinks are also extra. Didn't like that. Breakfast wad ok, bit let down in terms of the very limited offering eg had to pay same for a "veggie option " which was the meat version without sausage/bacon so literally just egg beans and tomatoes which was a rip off. No veg offering at all. No hot options such as porridge or pancakes etc. Continental offering was basic and things not covered so I didn't like that. But it was so so. 5/10 for breakfast.
Major issue is that the area becomes log jammed due to the natural beauty which means traffic in and out to this tiny place is horrendous. There is a large carpark opposite the hotel but if you have cases, luggage etc it is not an easy hike up to the hotel from the car as its steep and not near when carrying stuff. There really is not parking for more than a couple of cars on site and the access is difficult unless in a very small car due to the turn into the property and steep hill up."
"Our room was in converted old brick outbuilding along side the pub car park. The room was large comfortable and very clean. Great location for town and sea front with benefit of on site parking. Very good value - no breakfast but many nearby options. The pub itself had a great range of beer and ciders.
The only slightly disappointing thing was the lack of a fan in the room as we stayed on one of hottest days in the year - but overall would be very happy to stay again when we are in the area."
