The Ship Inn

The Ship Inn

10/10 Excellent
"Parking was in the street outside the hotel and not a problem. The room was large and spacious and the bathroom was spacious with a great overhead shower. The bar was very large and plenty of room in the restaurant. Best to book a table as it gets busy with locals. The staff were very helpful, attentive and the menu had a good selection and the food was very great. Can recommend the fish and chips or the Sea bass. The breakfast was in the restaurant and cooked to order with plenty to choose from. The Ship Inn has a beer gardens just across the road with views over the river. It’s also a short walk to the town/village and the old Mill is well worth visiting as it has a good history of the town and a nice cafe. I would also recommend driving towards the small war memorial and then taking the road sign posted to a parking area with amazing views across the area. Although the stay was a bit pricy I would have no problem staying again if in the area."

The Kenmuir Arms Hotel

The Kenmuir Arms Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kenmuir Arms hotel. Located in a wee picturesque village we found the staff friendly and accommodating. Room one was very clean with a very comfortable king-sized bed and the shower had great water pressure. Highly recommend the creative food prepared by international Chef-Patron Christopher Dougan (recently awarded in February 2025 Scotland's Dining Discovery of the Year and 5 AA Gold Stars and 2 AA Rosettes). Every meal was creatively prepared with local ingredients and fine dining flair, yet not overly pretentious. Chef was very accommodating for my request for gluten-free tasting menu at dinner. Every dish was delicious and it was a delight to not know what dish was coming next. The full Scottish breakfast with homemade sausage, black pudding, and haggis was a great way to start each day. The pub had selections of local beer and spirits. We were visiting the area to see Sam Heughan’s Galloway Distillery. It was a treat every afternoon to have drinks made with Harbor Hills Gin and Sassanach Vodka on the patio near a babbling brook and a stone bridge."
