"You get what you pay for. Solid 3 star hotel. Food wasn’t great or bad. If your kids can survive on hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken nuggets, this resort shouldn’t be an issue. Our room was dirty at check-in, the toilet water had an awful smell (all rooms), and the pool waters didn’t feel clean. Tried to use the hotel credits for golf (main reason we booked this hotel), and they are very misleading with advertising. I’ve stayed at other RIU resorts and this place isn’t in my top choices for future return."
"The RIU Palace is a great destination for travelers who want the access to Costa Rica without the hassle of having to rent their own car, look for places to eat and excursions.
Pros: the food was surprisingly delicious for an all-inclusive, the drinks (as a non-drinker) were also good, the massages at the spa (shout out Hazel) were reasonably priced and amazing! The coffee shop was working overtime! The coffee was to die for! And the mountain views were stunning. Importantly, it is 5 minutes from Diamante Eco Park. The hotel has vans that depart every 30 mins so it was great.
Cons: it was incredibly hot, not the hotel’s fault, just something to note. Guanacaste is an arid area so hotter than other parts of the country. The hotel has a 2000’s look. It is definitely older and it shows. The AC was not super cold, some light fixtures were not working and my shower did not fully drain. The beach was not blue (to be expected given the volcanic sand) but it was not clean either. There were some fruit and garbage scattered throughout. Lastly, LAR is a transportation company located inside the hotel, that took us to Coco Beach. That area was not what we were told AT ALL and when we called for them to pick us up they told us to wait an hour and a half for the next van.
In conclusion, if you want a taste of Costa Rica but you don’t want the “three hour hike” version, do RIU. You’ll have food, great coffee, amazing views, and you can go to the park for a taste of nature."
"Waited a while before actually leaving a review because i wanted to be as honest as possible without being biased. First and foremost the property is huge and well maintained. The property was boring, i don’t know if it was because of the season but it was absolutely boring nothing to do at all. By the 2nd night i was over it. The views are beautiful and my kids enjoyed the pool. Love going to the beach. The food was absolutely horrible. Minimal variety at the buffet and i was literally starving every day. I stayed 5nights and payed for the all inclusive package for 2days and i am glad i didn’t pay the whole time because i was left starving after each meal. Most of the times i had to leave property to get a meal because it was a no no at the buffet. I will not say not to purchase The all inclusive package because that would be biased but try it out for a day before going the whole stay if you know what i mean. Wasn’t worth it for me personally. All in all i would rate my experience at a 5/10 and the 5 was for the staff and how great they are. Subtract for food, boredom, etc. all in all i could have stayed 2 nights instead of 5 got the whole experience after 1 day ehhh"
The Westin Reserva Conchal, an All-Inclusive Golf Resort & Spa
10/10 Excellent
"The Westin Reserva Conchal delivered an unforgettable Costa Rica experience. The resort is absolutely beautiful — lush grounds, a stunning pool, and easy access to a pristine beach that feels both peaceful and energizing. Every part of the property is designed to make you slow down and enjoy where you are.
The food was excellent, with plenty of variety and consistently high quality across every restaurant. Whether it was breakfast, a casual lunch, or dinner at one of the specialty spots, everything felt fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The amenities were just as impressive, offering the perfect mix of relaxation and activities.
What truly sets this resort apart is the staff. Every interaction was warm, genuine, and attentive. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and it shows in the small details throughout the stay.
Overall, the Westin Reserva Conchal is a standout destination; beautiful, comfortable, and exceptionally well‑run. I’d return without hesitation."
"This a very small property compared to what we are accustomed to. It is beachfront, but you have to cross a public dirt road. Easy access with some vendors, but nothing pesky like Mexico.
The rooms either face the pool or the backsides of the property. There are no direct, beach front rooms. The rooms themselves are a typically sized hotel room, with all of the basic amenities. There is no AI room service offered here.
Food accommodations are offered in an adjacent building, either upstairs during the day or downstairs at night. There is an additional Italian place above the lobby where reservations are asked for. Food quality overall was good. We did notice the tenderness of the steaks to be a little inconsistent but everything else was generally spot on.
There is a pool bar on site, and food can be ordered there and delivered to the bar. The pool bar closes at 6pm.
A couple noteworthy service providers were as follows:
Andy and Douglas at the lower restaurant were always prompt and friendly. We spoke to them at least once every day.
Randall who is the supervisor of Capriccios, the Italian restaurant, was awesome. His team of Nadezca and Jonathan were spot on with their food and drink preparation. Randall himself knows how to work the room, even when things went a little askew. This man is going places and is an asset to the company for sure.
Overall, a generally chill vibe in the place, never competed for poolside lounges and good service."
"Everything was just perfect.
The location, friendliness of the staff and locals, clean & beautiful rooms, food at the restaurant is great as well as proximity to other dining options just a short walk down the beach as well as a a couple of convenience stores to get things you may need or forgot to pack.
You will not be disappointed."
