Playa del Carmen hotel rooms a the Highgate Independent

"Make sure you understand the difference between regular and platinum package, we did not know that regular package rooms would not be allowed to access the beach. It would've been cheaper to buy a platinum package online than the upgrade we paid in person. Staff are friendly but some of the main entrance people can come across aggressive with trying to "help" you/find tours for you. IMO better to lie and say you are fully booked already to keep it moving. We spent a bit of time at check in having to deny tours and whatnot from one of the staff/vendors at the main check in. Just say no to any offer of a special vip platinum breakfast or "free" tickets to a cenote. There is a platinum buffet, no exclusive vip breakfast, please just say no, say you have plans for the entire day, and dont waste your time. Other than that, the property was beautiful and the staff was welcoming, the room was nice and clean."

"Pros: Clean property Helpfull and friendly staff Cons -Room was outdated, damp, mouldy and had rust all over -A/c cannot be adjusted to your comfort settings. 22 degrees centigrate is the lowest you can go, making the room extremely hot - platinum status is a hoax . Save urself some money and just get deluxe -if you have a problem , concierge wont care - half the restaurants are closed."
