Take a step back in time and catch a show in this beautiful historical theatre in downtown Austin.

Tucked in the busy dining and entertainment precinct of North Congress Avenue in the city centre is this gem of a theatre. The Paramount Theatre stage plays host to all sorts of cultural events and is a well-loved icon in the Austin culture scene. Productions that have graced the stage of this theatre include classics like Evita and My Fair Lady, performances by renowned comedians like Rodney Dangerfield and evenings with celebrities such as Glenn Close. There have also been live shows from musical legends like B.B. King, as well as regular screenings of newly released or classic films.

The Paramount is always full of surprises, and has a great repertoire of programmes. You can find anything from a contemporary folk music performance to a film marathon here. Prices vary depending on the event, so check the Paramount Theatre website for pricing and scheduling details.

This classical revival and baroque revival piece of architecture was constructed in less than a year in 1915, at a cost of $150,000. The red and white brick building was first created for vaudeville, and great performers including magician Harry Houdini have performed on the stage here. Silent films followed after, and then the “talkies” came. Many major films have premiered here over the years, including the first Batman film in 1966 and Sin City in 2005. It is also one of the few remaining theatres in the country which had originally screened Casablanca in 1942 during its release.

Surrounded by restaurants, cafes and bars, you will have plenty of dining options prior to your show. Most of the downtown area is organised in a grid, so it’s easy to find your way around on foot. The Paramount can also be easily accessed by bus or train.
