As the western gateway to Death Valley, this town is the perfect station for the scenic attractions of Panamint Valley and the national park.

At the entrance to Death Valley, Panamint Springs is a rustic town with an old-world Western atmosphere. With its charming motels and hotels, the town offers the perfect base for exploring the picturesque highlights surrounding the area. Stay here for a few days and get to know more about the otherworldly rocky terrain.

Reach the town after driving through scenic Panamint Valley. Enjoy the views of the undulating mountains enclosing the town and experience the serenity in this remote spot just outside Death Valley.

Among the nearest natural attractions to Panamint Springs is the Towne Pass landmark. Expect cooler temperatures at this viewpoint, which stands at an elevation of almost 5,000 feet (over 1,500 meters). Continue west past the town to get to Father Crowley Overlook. From here, admire the panoramic vista of the colorful hills and mountains.

Back in Panamint Springs, relax at your hotel or campground and have a restaurant meal. Make sure to fill up at the gas station as fuel availability is limited in other parts of this remote region.

Embark on a trek south to Darwin Falls, a rare watery attraction in Death Valley National Park. The water basin and waterfall create a welcome contrast to the arid enclosing terrain.

Head northwest to the Lee Flat Joshua Trees to get a close look at these tree-like plants that are native to the region. East of the town are the 19th-century Wildrose Charcoal Kilns that were once used to process silver and lead ore. Visit nearby Aguereberry Point for sweeping views of Panamint Range.

Panamint Springs is in its namesake valley in the southwestern portion of Death Valley National Park. It is just over a half-hour drive northeast from the small town of Darwin. While here, make sure to see nearby sights such as Father Crowley Vista Point, Hunter Mountain and Coso Peak.

"Description should advise that this is a high rise with the hotel being on the 17th floor, parking on the 11th floor, and the ice machine on the 21st floor. The garage was a scary spiral that you didn't want to keep going up and down."
