The shared toilets and bathing facilities are clean and separated by gender, but the tired slippers at the entrance don’t seem like a very hygienic alternative to one’s own shoes… maybe we were spoiled by staying in too many business and apartment hotels and...

"Everything was quiet. The staff were kind and, between our broken Japanese and their broken English, we could communicate. Our room was nicer than expected. It was our first ryokan. Everything seemed old but well cared for, and it gave the place a comforting character."

The hotel, outdoor onsen, and woodsy surroundings were all excellent. "We are the repeaters. This the rare co-ed onsen which allows you to go in with your friends and family. The onsen was filled with milky warm water so that you can stay in long hours and enjoy other people's company. Very relaxing environment surrounded by mountains. The food was omakase and very good. We enjoyed all of the local cuisine items with great beer and sake. "
