OVO Hydro

The SSE Hydro
Glasgow's multipurpose events venue attracts the biggest names in entertainment. Come to see a performance or simply to admire the building's design.

The SSE Hydro, an iconic, elliptical building on the banks of the River Clyde, is one of the busiest concert venues in the world. The 12,000-seat arena fills up quickly, with fans gathering to see the high-caliber guests who perform here. Join the crowds to experience the electric atmosphere and to sing along with your favorite band.

The building was designed by Foster + Partners, the same architects responsible for the armadillo-shaped Clyde Auditorium. Completed in 2012, the $190-million (£125-million) stadium was inspired by Greek and Roman amphitheaters, yet with the modern twist of having the outer walls translucent and, at night, glowing. Take photos of the iconic structure before heading in for a concert.

The Hydro’s huge capacity and adaptable modern technology allow it to host all kinds of different acts. Marvel at the high-flying acrobatics of Cirque du Soleil or dance to the music of famous rockers including U2 and Paul Weller. Spend the night laughing at the comic talents of some of Britain's funniest stand-ups.

Luxuriate with an evening of music and high style in one of the arena's executive suites. These spacious rooms have sofas and bars for relaxing before the music kicks off and prime seats for seeing some of the most famous performers in the world.

Explore the many attractions of the riverbank before your evening. The Hydro and Clyde Auditorium are part of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre precinct. Nearby, the Riverside Museum, dedicated to transportation, and the Glasgow Science Centre both offer interactive exhibits within cutting-edge, futuristic buildings.

The SSE Hydro arena is located next to Exhibition Centre station, which has regular trains to other parts of the city including Glasgow Central. The arena has multistory, metered parking for visitors who arrive by car. In spite of the stadium's large capacity, the popularity of the acts means that tickets can sell out quickly, so book well in advance.
