Enjoy fascinating museums, popular seafood restaurants and harbor views in this small sailing village, a hidden gem tucked away in the corner of Groton.

At the mouth of the Mystic River in the southeastern section of Groton, find the charming village of Noank. Wander around the oceanfront harbors that line the edges of the village to enjoy its relaxed atmosphere. Elegant wooden boats bob in the water and stylish seafood restaurants look out over Long Island Sound. This historic village is irresistibly charming and a worthwhile stop on any exploration of Connecticut’s coastline.

Stroll through the narrow streets of the compact village center to appreciate its laid-back atmosphere. Marvel at the 19th-century timber buildings that line classically American Main Street. Hundreds of the houses in Noank were built in the 1800s, making the village an exquisitely preserved time capsule.

Visit the Noank Historical Society, which has its headquarters in the Sylvan Street Museum. Follow the story of the village and its shipbuilding industry through exhibits from the society’s extensive archives.

To see a beautifully preserved example of a classic New England church, head to Noank Baptist Church. Admire the simple beauty of the white timber tower. The building, which was erected in 1843, is surrounded by peaceful gardens.

Morgan Point Lighthouse is another familiar New England sight that offers a picturesque photography spot. See this landmark that was built in 1831 to help sailors as they entered the Mystic River.

Relax on Esker Point Beach, a compact, attractive stretch of sand in the southern part of the village with space to play volleyball. Come here for the SoundWaves Concert Series, when local musicians play on the beach on seven summer Thursdays.

Dine on fresh seafood at the restaurants scattered around the town and along the oceanfront. Succulent, catch-of-the-day lobster is just one of the local specialties.

Noank is about a 10-minute drive from MysticOpens in a new window, which is located on the opposite side of the river. Walk here in under 1 hour from Mystic’s town center to appreciate the slower pace of life in this friendly village.

"Overall it was a good experience. The breakfast was disappointing. It was only breads and cereal. There was shampoo, conditioner and lotions provided in the room. However, they were a hodgpodge of whatever they could find. Check in was smooth and the staff was helpful. We enjoyed our visit here."
