"Characterful period building, with a sumptuous and grand feel to the public areas. Can't fault the olde worlde atmosphere it creates. Our room (classic room) had been recently renovated with colourful wallpaper and carpet and was very clean and smart, if a little on the chintzy side (eg.,the over-large glass chandelier hanging from the ceiling). The only complaint is the miniature dimensions of the room. You could not get a double bed into a smaller space. One practical consequence is that there is absolutely nowhere to put suitcases without tripping over them. The bathroom was also tiny, with the shower unfortunately being of the over the bath variety.
The breakfast buffet had a great variety of tempting morsels, all very fresh. As is almost always the case with a hot buffet breakfast, the kitchen staff had not managed to meet the challenge of maintaining sufficient heat to the cooked food. We breakfasted at 7:30 am but some of the "hot" offerings were barely warm. On the whole we had a very pleasant stay and it was good value - but only because we scored a discount rate for both the room and for breakfast. At full price, I would have been less happy."
