Exterior photos are from 20 years ago, the place on the outside looks tired. On the inside in the common areas it also looks tired. The bedrooms are clean and tidy.
The building itself is incredibly outdated. The pictures shown online or on hotels.com are old and make it look cleaner than it currently is. My guess is that it has never been updated since it was first built. There were a lot of stains in the hallway and it smelled very old and wet. I would not stay here again.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Worn out property. Hallways smelled of dust and perhaps mold. Pool was out of service and the pool area was a mess. Room was adequately clean, bed and sheets were fine. Not horrible. Expedia reservation didn't go through (they claimed) and bumped the price. Watch out.
This property should be delisted from Orbitz. It isn't a proper hotel, more of a transitional housing property. It was a fabulous venue 50 years ago. It is now in a prime re-development location it seems and I suspect slated for demolition in the foreseeable future. Other than a bed and bathroom, if you actually find your room due to poor signage, there are NO services or amenities here. You are given a key, yes a metal KEY on a key ring with the room number on it, that has likely been copied. Even if you accept these conditions, the price per night should be less than $50. The problem is there are limited options for hotel lodging in Mt Horeb. Plan to stay somewhere else!
Hotel was not what we thought. There were burn spots on the lampshades and the people next door were loud and it sounded like they were fighting in our room. Do not recommend this hotel
Office staff were friendly and polite when they checked us in, there were clean sheets on our bed, the bathroom was clean, and the refrigerator and TV worked. Our room was very dimly lit.
The Karakahl is quite dilapidated--common areas appear neglected, with stained carpeting and no evidence of recent vacuuming. Dried leaves were noted on the carpeting throughout the building. The swimming pool is empty. Parts of the building are completely unlit. Murals are peeling off the walls, with the debris allowed to remain on the carpeting. A ladder was laid across the top of one stairwell to prevent people from using the stairwell. The only way to access the office is to exit the building and walk around to the office entrance. Only 1 of 2 vending machines contained any items--about 10 bags of chips and less than 20 candy bars. The game/exercise room appears unused, containing a video game machine that wasn't turned on, a pool table (with no cue sticks or balls visible), and 1 piece of exercise equipment; the hallway leading to that room was filled with old furniture in various states of disrepair. Signage indicating a breakfast room must have been left over from some previous point in history when there was actually such an amenity at the facility.
The building lost power during the night, leaving us in TOTAL darkness for about 1 hr. and 40 min. before power was restored. EXIT SIGNAGE WAS UNLIT!
We do not plan to stay at the Karakahl again!
The property is run down and the pictures presented of the property do not represent actual by any means. Outside trash. Property is more of a weekly rental it would seem.
Door outside locked, but the door into the inner hallway was ajar. Did not feel comfortable staying there, so left.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Staff were very plesant and would certainly go back to this motel. Very good deal. Once the pool has been reopened I could see this being a wonderful place indeed!

Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities
Used to be nice, but now is rundown. Could be nice again with some updates and maintenance.
The hotel DOES NOT have a pool. (at least no water inside). It is clean but really old, cold and smelly.
The room is of a decent size but it takes at least a night to make it warm, since the turn the heat off in the whole building. ( hallway stay as cold as it can). The owner is willing to lower the price but I would rather pay a bit more and stay in a much modernized hotel ( since there is no pool anyways)
The first room had no heat. They gave us a different room. The second room was freezing. We had the heat on 82 degrees from 6:30 Friday night until Sunday morning when we checked out. The room finally somewhat comfort Saturday night when it finally got to 70 degrees. The floors were freezing and I had to wear 2 pair of socks the whole stay.
