Mirador Monte Toix is a popular lookout and beauty spot on Morro de Toix, a 984-feet (300-meter) hill that separates Calpe from Altea. Visit the lookout to witness one of the best panoramic views of the Costa Blanca coastline and picturesque countryside of the Province of Alicante. Spot some of the region’s most recognizable landmarks and observe as people partake in adventure sports.
The Mirador Monte Toix is a place that invites you to take your time to appreciate the views and spectacular setting. Enjoy the slower pace of life away from the busy tourist centers of Spain’s Costa Blanca region. Consider packing a picnic and staying to witness how the appearance of the landscape changes with the movement of the sun. Late afternoon is especially magical as the sun begins its descent behind the peaks of the Sierra de Bernia.
Look across the Bahia de Calpe at the iconic Peñón de Ifach promontory, which was once home to an Iberian village and later a Roman settlement. On clear days it’s possible to make out the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera. An interpretive sign at the lookout provides information about the geology and flora of Morro de Toix.
Follow the dirt track west over the hill to a radio mast station. Here the views stretch south over the high-rise towers of popular resort towns such as Altea and Benidorm. You’ll also see the vegetation-clad hillsides of Parque Natural de la Serra Gelada. Hang gliders often launch from this area of the hill, as do people practicing abseiling.
Mirador Monte Toix is 3 miles (5 kilometers) from Calpe via zigzagging roads lined with luxurious villas. There’s a small car parking lot located about a 10-minute walk from the lookout area. If you feel like walking from the town center then plan for a journey of about 90 minutes and bring plenty of water, especially in the summer months.
