Go for a stroll along this extensive walkway by the water to spot surrealist statues and historical structures and then dine at a restaurant with mesmerizing views.

Dotted with palm trees and flowers, bordered by gorgeous beaches and flanked by the Sierra Blanca mountains, Marbella Seafront Promenade is one of the most attractive boardwalks on the Costa del Sol. Enjoy stellar views as you wander its almost 7.5-mile (12-kilometer) length.

The promenade starts on the eastern side of Marbella in the fishing village of Puerto Bajadilla and travels all the way to the resort of Puerto Banús. It is part of the Malaga Coastal Path, an extensive route that winds its way along the entire coastline of Malaga province.

Put on your exercise gear if you want to up the pace the promenade is popular with joggers and cyclists. Work on key muscle groups on static exercise machines in several locations. They are free to use. Among the promenade’s other amenities are children’s play areas and trampolines.

While you are on the promenade take advantage of the many tapas bars, cafés and restaurants that serve local and international cuisines. Browse the shops for clothes and souvenirs and rest on a bench under the shade of a palm tree.

Take a detour and explore some of the roads leading off the seafront walkway such as the Avenida del Mar, which leads to Marbella Old Town. It is home to fountains and sculptures by the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Visit one of the beaches to sunbathe, swim and participate in watersports.

Depending on how much ground you cover and where you go on the paseo you may also come across El Faro de Marbella, the 19th-century lighthouse and a Roman bridge. This was constructed in the 1st century and was on Via Augusta, the long road built by the Romans to link Spain with Italy. The boardwalk also passes by the Marina of Marbella. From here you can catch the 30-minute ferry service to Puerto Banús.

To get to Marbella Seafront Promenade while in Marbella just walk a few minutes from the city center.
