The Ship Inn

10/10 Excellent

"Second stay at the Ship Inn, room is perfect, breakfast excellent. Food is terrific although the restaurant was almost full (apparently it usually is…) and this perhaps reflected in the service last night. Example, we were finished our starters and had to chase our drinks. But granted restaurant was very busy. Would certainly use again if opportunity arises."

Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

"I stayed here mainly because of the price. For the couple of days I was staying here it was reasonably affordable. But also for nostalgic reasons. As someone who grew up in Gatehouse, we used to use the Cally for the swimming pool and would walk around the Cally grounds and gardens. It was nice to see that it still has the same feel it to it and even though there are updates, it still has preserved that old stately home feel with the furniture. The bedroom was hugely spacious. The bed was bigger than expected and very comfortable. Definitely what I needed each night after a day of exploring the area. There are two separate en suites in the room I was in a shower, toilet and sink in one and bath and sink in the other. With the latter there is a clothes line which did come in handy. The staff on reception were lovely and incredibly accommodating. Happy to provide information around the area but also the hotel. I did have an issue with something in my room and it was fixed straight away. The room was clean. With an excellent view of the lake around the golf course. The wardrobe also provides dressing gowns which was a lovely addition."

North West Castle Hotel

"I just was just here for one night after getting off the ferry at Cairnryan before continuing my journey the next morning. The staff were helpful and lovely both on reception and in the dinning room at breakfast. The room was spacious and bed was incredibly comfy probably one of the comfiest beds I’ve slept in. Breakfast was lovely with both options of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and a cooked breakfast from a menu which was superb. I would definitely stay here again if passing through to and from the ferry port or even to stay and explore more of the area around this part of Galloway"

Fernhill Hotel

"The area is absolutely stunning with amazing views. The hotel needs a little TLC is a little antiquated needs to be brought into the 21st century only silly things like sockets that take phone cables etc, especially when you’re on business and need chargers etc: however what a lovely place to stay and I would cope lol. Staff were amazing all of them from the gent on reception who seemed to be everywhere to the lovely lady in the Bar and restaurant again she was a very busy lady with a joyful and friendly attitude. All in all a great place and most importantly I enjoyed my time there. Will most definitely visit again even if I have to drive out of my way."

The Portpatrick Hotel by Compass Hospitality

"Great location with panoramic view of Portpatrick. Car parking on site which is included in the cost of your room as long as you register with reception. Very clean hotel . Dog friendly with dedicated areas of the hotel reserved for dogs and their owners. Breakfast is self service buffet. The plate warmer and the hot food warmer do not keep the plates and the cooked food warm. Coffee machine was broken so only instant coffee available at breakfast hence a score of 4 out of 5."

"Friendly staff, room was clean and adequate, no problem in getting extra beverages, breakfast very good, bed comfortable , bathroom and little small, cabinet above small sink to low when trying to wash or shave , but got on with it and did not spoil our stay, very good shower, lovely view from window overlooking harbour, enjoyed our stay over 3 nights would go back 😀"
