"Went to stay at Mad Monkey for 3 days in the shared dorm for the doublebed room for couples. It was some lovely people and very helpful staf. It has happy hour for 4 hours a day, you get a free drink when arriving and they have aircon in the rooms. The rooms are still warm but feel quite private.
We enojyed the pool area, especially at night where you could look at the stars and swim around before going to bed.

"This is my fifth visit here. It’s a charming boutique hotel with a nice pool and fantastic staff. There’s a small restaurant across the street, also close to the historic district and its morning and night markets."
"I was extremely disappointed with this hotel - we checked out two days early. It is at best a 3 star hotel. Only stay if you get a cheap deal and don’t expect 5 star service or standards.
The WiFi doesn’t work we had to use 5G
We had to wake up the bar server twice, the first time Christmas songs were played (in March!!) and the second time it was silent and had absolutely no atmosphere.
We paid extra for a riverside view to watch sunset, don’t bother - hoards to boats arrive outside the hotel and play Chinese karaoke, loudly - it certainly doesn’t make for a peaceful or romantic setting - I appreciate there is nothing the hotel can do about this.
The rooms are very tired. Our flights flickered significantly when we turned on the water. They are also not that clean, there was significant dust on the headboard.
There is construction work going on around the hotel that we were not told about upon booking.
The pool is rented out to anyone for $6 inc beers, we didn’t use this but again doesn’t fit with an exclusive 5star feel.
The speciality dining restaurant is shut.
Staff service is haphazard, we had to have an argument with the ma on the gate who refused to let our taxi into the hotel and made us walk - again all very minor but not 5 star. We tried to check out quietly but was greeted by the Operations manager who wanted my feedback, which I provided, he agreed the hotel was not up to standard and agreed to email me, not unsurprisingly I haven’t received an email. "
"We loved our hotel! The staff were all so friendly, and the location was perfect. The rooms were comfortable, and breakfast in the garden was a lovely way to start the day. We would love to come back and stay at this hotel for a longer period of time, just to relax!"
"Pros: staff was very kind & helpful, location of the hotel was in close proximity to the morning & night market, and the room/hotel was clean.
Cons: the drainage for both the shower and toilet were a problem during our 3 night stay. Although the water pressure was excellent, the hot water ran out one evening and were told that we’d have to wait about 30 mins as the hotel is fully booked and it’s a busy time for showers. I wouldn’t have minded that, but a heads up of busy shower hours would have been appreciated. Our toilet also clogged every day, even though we followed the rules about throwing toilet paper in the trash bin instead of the toilet. We worked around it by waiting to flush again, once the level subsided.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel due to the location, cleanliness, and staff, but if you are particular about your showers as I am (water pressure & hot water), I would just be aware of the busy hours. The water pressure was great tho! "
"This Sofitel location is probably one of the best I’ve been to. It’s a boutique hotel but has all the amenities of a 5 star hotel. All the staff from front desk, drivers, restaurant, room attendant, including the general manager were very helpful. They made sure that we had a wonderful stay. The front desk assisted us with tours and getting in and around town. They even assisted in booking us train tickets to our next destination. The resto staff were always friendly and the food selection was great. We also tried the spa which is a must. They provide a free 5min massage daily in the morning. The staff went above and beyond most 5 star hotels I’ve been to. I can truly say that I will be coming back and would highly recommend to everyone. "
