Los Peligros Beach

Los Peligros Beach which includes heritage architecture, kayaking or canoeing and a coastal town
Ignore the Spanish name’s warning and relax on the golden sand of one of the calmest beaches in the city.

Los Peligros Beach is a gorgeous stretch of golden sand in the heart of Santander. The strand is 660 feet (200 meters) long and is one of the most popular beaches in the city due to its central position and easy parking. Walk along the charming wooden footbridge that runs along the length of the beach and enjoy the stunning views.

Capture photos of the green hills backing onto the beach and surrounding the neighboring headland. Across the bay is the Torre Island, with the smaller Horadada Island behind it. Note that the strand’s name translates to Dangers Beach, although its waters in the Santander Bay are particularly calm, resembling the flat surface of a swimming pool. Its name may refer to the way that its shallow seas can beach entering boats.

Enhance your tan in the warm sun. Lay down a blanket on the sand for a picnic, accompanied by the soothing sound of the tiny waves. Cool down on a scorching afternoon with a dip in the refreshing water. You can also take a break at the restaurant and bar, selecting from an eclectic menu. Stroll east along the long wooden deck to reach adjacent Bikinis Beach.

Lifeguards regularly patrol this beach, making it safer for families. Make use of the foot showers and inexpensive public bathrooms that are dotted along the strand. You may wish to arrive early to beat the crowds, as this is one of the nearest beaches to the city center and is popular on weekend afternoons.

Los Peligros Beach is in the arch of the Magdalena Peninsula on the eastern side of central Santander. Walk east from the Santander railway station for 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) to get here in about 35 minutes. Look for other nearby landmarks including the Gran Casino del Sardinero, El Sardinero Beach and the Magdalena Palace.
