"This is a very charming place situated right in the center of “Darrowby”. The inn has a beautiful garden and the breakfast is tasty and well done. The innkeeper Lynn was the best example of hospitality we have ever had, coming to the rescue when our rental car had a flat tire in a remote area. She really embodies the reputation of how lovely the people are in the Yorkshire Dales, and took extra care to make sure our car troubles didn’t ruin the vacation."

Hall Garth Hotel Darlington, Sure Hotel Collection by BW
8/10 Good
"Just stayed one night so didn't use amenities or facilities. Room was basic but what we needed for the one night. Spacious family room with plenty of tea and milk provided, however was in an old building so needs an upgrade and a deep clean - lots of cobwebs."
"Clean room, easy check in and out. Friendly staff. Need to ensure clearing if tables in lounge more promptly and some furnishing requires upgrade/ repair."
"Always have a lovely stay at the Crown. The breakfast cooked to order is lovely. All of the different sitting areas in the hotel are quirky and well furnished to sit for a drink/coffee or just for a chat, or you can help complete the current jigsaw that is on the go. The pool etc is good and if you choose to forgo your room clean they leave additional supplies in a paper bag on the handle of your door so you don't go short of tea/coffee etc. The bathrooms are a bit dated but very clean with nice toiletries The staff were all lovely and accommodating"
"Great choice right in the centre of Middleham. Bed comfy. Room clean. Towels and Toiletries provided. Tea/Coffee/Milk in room. Pub great atmosphere. All round 10/10."
"Unfortunately we stayed in room 19 which has a smelly drain problem & room next door was only separated from us by a mattress standing in the adjoining doorway, after reporting the drain problem we were given a different room which was perfect, thanks to the staff for their quick response.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant which consisted of a tasty meat pie & chips which were covered in salt!! I like salt myself but these were extremely salty making most of them left on my plate, I was asked if there was a problem with my meal & when told about the Chips I was informed that the chef usually puts the salt on.....why? I presume this was why no condiments were on the table.
The breakfast was okay, lots of choice but ours was overcooked & bacon frazzled we guessed this was due to a lack of staff as they were slow to take orders etc because there were only 3 of them & appeared to be rushed off their feet. We would stay there again as its a lovely building & staff pleasant and welcoming."
"We had a wonderful stay at the Golden Fleece, it surpassed our expectations. Ample parking, free, at the rear of the hotel, we were warmly welcomed and our room, if it was a standard room (Number 5) was welcoming, comfy, spotlessly clean and with lots of extra amenities to make us feel at home. It had the feel of an upgraded room, newly refurbished, with a great Roberts radio, coffee machine, free water and lovely toiletries (which you could buy as well if you liked them). As we have an elderly pooch, I emailed to ask for a low floor room if at all possible and received an immediate reply reassuring me it was not a problem at all. I appreciated that, as without a lift it can be a bit of a trauma for our lovely old boy.
The staff in all areas were lovely, professional, friendly and very helpful. Sam (the pooch) especially enjoyed his breakfast sausage and all the attention. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, although thankfully we had no issues to trouble them with, as they have thought of everything to make a stay a memorable and relaxing one.
An 11am checkout is a rarity these days, but very much appreciated, as you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast, with lots of choices and worth the supplement and ease yourself into the day.
Location-wise, couldn't be better, right in the heart of Thirsk, we didn't need to use the car at all. Lots to see and do, soak up the atmosphere of a busy market town, all in all a fantastic stay and we will return!"
