Hotel Funicolare

"Let me begin by saying that this is one of the most beautiful resorts in the world! The architecture is fantastic with private balconies on every room which allow personal, gorgeous views that one will never forget. Built at the turn of the twentieth century, the property has been maintained well. Considering that the resort sits atop a very high peak overlooking a beautiful lake in the Alps, that is no small feat. The interior has been well preserved, shiny and clean. The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. That’s the good side of the experience. On the down side, the staff, the restaurant, the unwelcoming atmosphere, not so good. We got the feeling from check in until departure that we were a big inconvenience. Not rude, just indifferent, not friendly. We sat in the restaurant for half an hour, completely ignored, while a small group (we assumed they were locals) had a get together, and finally walked out. We drove around the mountain a short way and found a small restaurant where we had the most wonderful home cooked meal we could have dreamed of. No breakfast, no coffee, no restaurant. I would definitely stay here again, but with no expectations of service."

"Loved out triple room, windows on two sides looking over the water. Large bathroom that you accessed through what looked like a wardrobe door. Beautiful old building with lovely architectural feature. Breakfast was very nice. The only issue we had was that we were a bit cold at night (it was late March) and although we understood that the central heating wouldn’t be pumping at that time of year, we asked reception for more blankets and were just told no. Didn’t ruin our stay but I don’t think we were asking for too much there."

"Lovely hotel in Saronno, perfect base for Milan sightseeing. 30 minutes from Malpenza and Milan on the train with a great breakfast and large rooms at an excellent price. Very friendly staff as well."

Villa Rêverie - Boutique Hotel

"The Villa sea view rooms and patio give amazing views of the lake. It's about 10 to 15 min walk into town. Breakfast was alright. The rooms are a little warm and bathroom doors are glass, which we found odd. But we also traveled as a family with small children. Feels more like a couples place. But it was quiet at night and we enjoyed our stay."
