Loved this hotel. Short walk to the gardens and geisha districts, bars, restaurants, and shopping. The English-speaking staff went above and beyond with their hospitality and I loved the free activities like the tea and sweet tasting.
This hotel is located in a side street with shops and "downtown" nearby. The downside is that it could be a bit far to carry your luggage to/from the closest bus and taxi drop off/pickup point. While they do help in sending your luggage forward (e.g. Yamato), there are free luggage storage lockers available for guests.
Delicious breakfast and a spotless hotel for the most part. Only negative points was the format of the bed as it would slide if you were sat up leaning against the back board, and that a lot of light came in through the edges of the blinds at night. I did not really sleep the first night because of this. The staff did their best to amend this problem by adding cover to the window which helped, which I greatly appreciated!
The hotel is in the centre of Kanazawa. easy for restaurants and the main tourist attractions. Rooms very clean and a nice size. Only slight negative the breakfast was not as good as we have experienced in japan.
This was our first stay in this fabulous chain of hotels. It was excellent, beautiful, and a hint of traditional despite all the modern accoutrements available. The rooms are spacious. The bath tub big and lovely. If you are seeking for a boutique hotel that still reminds you you are travelling through Japan, this is the right choice.
The place is really great for shops and food but difficult for self drive due parking not nearby and drop off at next street because hotel main door at the human pathway only
GOOD
I chose this hotel as I've stayed in other hotels in their chain. The hotel itself has a great location in terms of travel to major sites and the neighbourhood is nice, with a 711 just 20 metres down the road.
Room is well designed, with the bed raised on a platform a great idea for putting your luggage underneath and not taking up valuable floor space.
Breakfast was tasty. I tried the Kanazawa Curry Toast.
BAD
The table is fixed to the ground and I couldn't find a height adjustment. I can imagine that mobility challenged people will struggle with getting in and out and not great for younger children.
Travelling for business, I arrived around 1240 and asked about early check in. After checking with cleaning staff, I was advised that rooms were available but that a 2*** yen/hr charge would apply. I figured that's OK and proceeded with check in but was shocked when I was charged 2*** for the 11 mins between 1249 and 1300 plus for between 1400-1500. I asked the staff, "Really? You're going to charge for 11 mins?" and he shrugged his shoulders.
I contacted Hoshino directly and raised a complaint but the answer was "We will train our staff better to explain the charges to our guests".
If you're travelling for business and expecting some flexibility here, then maybe another hotel is for you. I've advised our team in Japan to avoid this chain for future business trips.
I usually don't like to write very negative reviews but here it is impossible to avoid. Under the cover of Hoshino hotels, they created a brand which is supposedly stylish but is in fact a concept that is not good at all. Rooms are poorly designed, not enough lights and sitting aera, no easy access to the bedsame for electric outlets etc.
The worst is the location which you can't reach with a car but they don't tell you this in advance and going to the parking is a nightmare which the hotel didn't informed us in advance and cause us a time and money loss. So not recommended at all even if at first sight it looks nice. If you are over 50 it's a no go.
