"We stayed at this ryokan for 3 nights and we loved it there! It is family driven and has such a lovely and local feeling. Our room was big, authentic and had a really nice onsen. We received the best breakfast every morning, it was the best we ever had. We also had dinner there 1 night, and it was such an experience. Everything tasted amazing and we loved that the ingredients was local and in season. We also got help for activities. "

Tabino Hotel Matsumoto

"This hotel was a fantastic stay from start to finish. The location was excellent — close to everything worth seeing in Matsumoto, making it easy to explore on foot. Staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, always ready with recommendations or assistance whenever needed. A huge bonus: both breakfast and dinner were included, and the quality made it feel like real added value rather than an afterthought. Between the convenient location, great service, and the meals, this place made the whole trip smoother and more enjoyable. Highly recommend if you’re staying in Matsumoto — genuinely can’t fault it"

"We had a wonderful stay at Sansuikan. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and always happy to help. Our room had a beautiful mountain view, which made it a very relaxing place to stay. The meals were delicious, with a great variety of authentic local Japanese dishes. The hotel is also conveniently located, with easy access to the bus stop for Kamikochi. We would definitely recommend Sansuikan to anyone visiting the area."

"We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hotel Kagetsu in Matsumoto. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome with their warm, friendly, and attentive service. The room exceeded our expectations. It was spotless, incredibly spacious, and thoughtfully designed with a unique split-level layout that made it feel even larger. Having two sinks was a great convenience, and the amenities provided were excellent. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making it easy to relax after a day of exploring. The location is fantastic—you really can't go wrong staying here. It's convenient to Matsumoto Castle, restaurants, shops, and everything you need while still offering a peaceful atmosphere. What truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding customer service. The staff went above and beyond to help us arrange luggage forwarding to our next hotel, even though we requested it on very short notice. Despite the language barrier, they were incredibly patient, resourceful, and determined to make everything work. Their kindness and willingness to help made a lasting impression on us, and we were so grateful for all of their efforts. We would highly recommend Hotel Kagetsu to anyone visiting Matsumoto. It offers beautiful accommodations, an excellent location, less than 10 minute walk to Matsumoto Castle, and some of the best hospitality we've experienced in Japan. We would gladly stay here again!"

"A pleasant stay in a convenient location. Though the check in time was late afternoon we arrived earlier, and we were able to store our luggage till check in. The staff were helpful and the property was in a great location, with a decent sized comfortable room and bathroom."

"The property, staff, views, and location to trails are incredible. We did not realize that there is a 10-15 minute walk to the hotel from the bus stop with luggage. I would recommend contacting the hotel ahead of time to see if there are delivery options available. The hotel was able to transport our luggage to the bus stop upon check out for a small fee. Breakfast (including traditional Japanese options and a few western options) as well as a multi-course dinner are included. The private onsen was very enjoyable. However, we found the beds to be extremely firm and did not sleep well. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend."
