"Was a bit disappointed with our stay here. I’d read that the rooms were a bit dated, but it was rundown in aspects as well. The window in our bathroom had a broken hinge, the towels were old and tattered, the faucet discoloured, but the worst part was the bugs in the room. There was an ant (?) infestation - they’d burrowed a few holes into the bathroom doorframe and they were coming in and out of them and we found them in various places around the room. There were other various bugs we found over the three nights, so never felt settled. I know this is a tropical area, but we didn’t encounter this to this degree elsewhere.
That said, the staff were very nice and when we went to the front desk about the ants they came and sprayed the room. Unfortunately, we still found stragglers and other new bugs during the rest of our stay.
The hotel is within walking distance to a beach, but we ultimately preferred other beaches with vendors and amenities, which required a drive either to Carrillo or central Samara. "
"The property is advertised on Expedia as having direct access to the beach, but upon checking in we found out that there are two sister properties one being on the beach and the other one several blocks away from the ocean and with no beach view. We were also advised on check-in that the two bedroom apartments we booked are only available in the property which is remote from the beach. None of this was mentioned upon reservation. All the windows from our apartment were facing roads or walls of other buildings. This is clear false advertisement especially given the pictures of the beach from the property’s balcony included in the property profile which imply beach location. Our room was not worth the money paid given its location."
"Absolutely loved our stay here! Staff are beyond kind. Property is beautiful and natural. Rooms are large and contain everything you need. Samara is beautiful and offers a wide range of activities to do off the resort. Such as side by side rides, horseback riding, day excursions, scuba diving, and lots more!
We planned a lot of them at the excursion desk upfront with Luis, he was wonderful. At the front desk of the hotel Diego, Donovan and Josue always were there to help with any and everything. Food was always great, Kenneth,Burner,Donny and Alonso were always there to help at the chill and grill and other restaurants. The spa is a must visit, I had a deep tissue massage from Celenie and it was much needed after scuba diving (use Samara dive school and meet 5 minutes down the beach!) the gift shop on site is so convenient, even offering shipping for coffee and chocolate, this was Josie, Eli, Maikol, and Marco to thank for that and also recommending all the best local snacks.10/10 resort "
"This hotel is good for their large pool, large parking lot, and direct beach location. It also has a modest breakfast included. The building itself is old and needs maintenance. The room had an opening to the outside in the bathroom so the bathroom was always hot. The a/c in the bedroom turned on but didn’t cool the room much, when we advised the staff we were told that it doesn’t work so good when it’s hot and that locals dont have any a/c. There wasn’t wifi in the room so you had to either sit out on the balcony in the heat for it or sit by the reception or pool to connect. The pool was large and clean however lots of the loungers were broken so you had to prop them up using sticks from the beach. There is a nice bar/restaurant beside the hotel. This hotel would be betterwhen it’s cooler and a/c isn’t needed to sleep. Most rooms have 1 or 2 flights of stairs to get to. "
"Family of 4 (kids 12 and 12). We had a great time, great vibe and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the food (smaller selection but different themes and items everything). Wait staff and bartenders and front desk very helpful. Our room had some things like poor water pressure, one shower was cold. Some ants I. One of the room but they kept to themselves on the wall and didn’t bother us too much. Amazing sunsets and beautiful view. Jigged into town via beach in 20 minutes…walk in 45 minutes. Maybe 1.9 miles? Can also rent bikes in town for $10/day. Beach is very bike-able with packed sand and saw people biking all the time. Hotel tents for $30/day and they are newer and nicer than what we saw in town. We rented a car and 6 minutes to town. Lots of restaurants and shops in town. We enjoyed our stay very much. "
"Exceeded my expectations.
Room massive, two seperate bedrooms, lots of storage and an amazing front deck. Room was a bit worn, but was cozy, clean and unpretentious.I loved staying here and coming back here to relax. Many thoughtful details were added like the water in the fridge, the ability to bring food/plates/cups back from the restaurant to eat, and taps outside the deck to rinse sand off. The airconditioning was a life saver.
We were on the beach-not much of a view but easy access. We could hear the waves.
There were howler monkeys in the trees over our bungalow.
Parking was right near us in a gated section-Felt safe.
Morning breakfast was yummy and good value considering it was included in our stay. There were two options of eggs, toast and fruit or a Costa Rica Traditional Breakfast. Coffee and Orange juice was included but you had to ask to get both. It was served right on the beach which was magical.
We ate at the onsite restaurant many times. Most times it was a hit- the fish was fresh and very well prepared, the portion sizes huge.
The pool was a nice size and enjoyable.
Sadly didn't get a chance to get to the yoga class as hoped, but did book in for a massage- one of the best I've had.
Easy waking to the main strip for restaurants and shops. Security walk around at night, discreetly. Felt safe.
HAPPILY will return.
Cons: Shower head would clog with sand (We just took it off. Good pressure and heat, no issues). Pebbled trails on property-not easy on bare feet!"
"The service at Fuego Lodge is second to none. The pool area is beautiful We watched a highway train of monkeys cross the roofs one evening. Download WhatsApp if you haven't already. You may need it. Will definitely consider staying there again!"
