What a wonderful surprise. A 1930s gas station and surrounding buildings become unique little cabins. Fully stored with kitchenettes and stove tops sinks, classic furniture having been a gas station. Some of the decor is automobilia. A great place to stay.

We don’t usually have any issues booking through Expedia and have appreciated their convenience when shopping for a place to stay. But this stay was the exception and something we have never experienced before, thus the 1 star overall rating. When we arrived in Hettinger early afternoon on Sept. 16th, we tried our code several times that was given in the email from Expedia. It did not unlock the door, so we called the phone number given on the email and a lady answered the phone and she did something on her end to unlock the door. We proceeded to bring our luggage into the room and unpack and get settled. She also told us if we left, we could not get back into the room until after 3:00pm. So we left to eat, visited the homestead and cemetery & we didn’t get back to the room until 6pm. The door didn’t open with our verified code, after trying numerous times. We called the Expedia # numerous times, leaving a message & no one answered or called us back. We didn’t know what to do and ended up calling a different Expedia # & talked to 2 reps there & they tried to reach someone also, but no one answered their calls. So, they didn’t know what to do to help us. Two hours later, a lady at a gas station across the street knew the local contact person & gave us her cell #, but she didn’t answer either. We finally called 911 because we were getting panicky, at now 8 pm & dark. A sheriff called back and said he knew the lady and called her to come help us. She finally came.

Zero bars or restaurants open. WiFi and TV didn’t work. No shampoo and toilet ran intermittently- definitely needs a bit of TLC although hosts were very nice in bringing extra towels.
