  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

The motel was clean and quiet and close to restaurants. The staff were helpful but what was a surprise is they asked for a bond, which you get back when you leave, that was unexpected. Good place to stay for a night or two

The property was disgusting! A WINZ accommodation Motel that reflected a complete lack of respect for the property and any paying customers. Nothing about this property was appealing! I literally walked in and repacked my car and left for another Motel! I was happy to forfeit my $$ to be somewhere else!! incredibly disappointing as I have stayed here at least 3 other times (all work trips)...Never again and nor would I recommend it to anyone...

Good that this motel office was open up until 10pm and good they provided complementary milk .Otherwise there is nothing else good to say. Very old place which was due for an upgrade 20 yrs ago. I paid about $103 per night which was way too high a price for this motel. Spend an extra $20 and go somewhere else for a vast improvement in quality. Carpet and furniture was old, stained and tatty . Tv was blurry and a strain to watch. Other occupiers appeared to be permanent work and income clients looking like gangsters with dirty clothes, hoodys covering faces, and damn noisy cars visiting at all hours. I choose this place because wotif reviews gave property " excellent " status . This rating was a lie and makes me question using wotif. I have just spent 6 weeks travelling staying at hotels around nz every night . This place is the worst place I have ever stayed at, but if the product description was accurate and the price was much lower then perhaps one would not come away feeling ripped off

These are tired units. The shower over the bath leaked all over the floor. One lightbulb hAd blown in the lounge and the tv could not change channels. We finally got management to come and fix the tv but had to phone them and when they didn’t come after an hour we had to go to reception to find out why they hadn’t been over.

Property was very good considering most rooms seemed to be occupied by what appeared to be semi-permanent families who had made themselves well at home. No reception necessitated going to next door motel which also wasn't open next morning when we had to check out. Not bad for the price for one night stay but need to know prior if motel is being used as emergency housing with full motel/reception facilities.

Best nights sleep ever

This place has the most amazingly comfy super king beds, then we woke up to great shower pressure and moccona coffee (not the usual hotel crappy coffee) will definitely be staying here whenever we are in Hamilton.
