"Lovely stay, clean, lots of facilities. I particularly liked the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi which I used everyday of my stay. Room was a good size and had lovely views of the grounds. I would defintely stay again"

"The building is tired and needs a lot of TLC but all the staff were expectional and couldn't do enough. Easy parking and good location. Room was 'dated' but functional and clean, with a bath (bonus!) and very comfy firm beds. We paid for breakfast and said it would be 10.45 before we arrived, but were there by 10.35 in the end (Breakfast is served until 11am). We had to ask for the food to be replenished and at first was told there were no more pastries (essential park of breakfast) but then chef agreed to cook us some. If breakfast is advertised as until 11am, at at cost of over £15, then i'd expect all breakfast items to be available until this time."

"Would definitely stay here again despite the hotel being in need of a lot of money spending on it. Very large room. Good walk in shower (needs a safety handle/ rail for walking in and out), terribly tiny sink with nowhere to put toiletries (small glass shelf above like leaning tower of Pisa, needs a spirit level). No fridge. One chair near small tv. Great view and privacy. We were attending a crime book festival nearby hotel. The atmosphere, decor, gloriously old feeling, and the size of the Cairn hotel with its wandering corridors and large ballrooms/ dining rooms put us right there in the right mood. Breakfast was a 5* offering with the best service we've had for a long time. Hot drinks and toast brought to the table was wonderful. Staff totally wonderful throughout our stay, except the 2 men behind reception,when I came back for our luggage, who watched me struggle to get 3 cases from luggage room and out through the foyer with no assistance offered. (A guest took one from me and took out to waiting taxi for me! I could manage the other 2, I am 73 and my 85 year old husband was in the taxi). A very enjoyable stay. Real ale in bar good. We saw people having afternoon tea and it looked far better than Betty's. Scones enormous and delicious (they were on offer at breakfast)."

"The room was clean, if a little dated, bed comfortable, and a great breakfast. Sink in the bathroom was cracked ( although not leaking ) and unfortunately there was hot water coming out of the cold tap, this was dealt with quickly however when I reported it.( the manager also provided us with bottled water to clean our teeth!) The hotel was preparing for a big event whilst we were there but it had no detrimental effect on our stay. The staff were all very polite and helpful. The hotel itself is a lovely old building with loads charm and character, and the dining room is ceiling is exceptional. Overall for the two nights I was happy with the amount I paid to stay, and I would stay again, although if Im honest Im not really sure I’d like the same room.!!"

"Really nice hotel. Bar area was busy and restaurant food and service were excellent. It was quite noisy having to check in at reception which was in the middle of a noisy bar. The room and especially the bathroom were incredibly small. It was difficult to move around the room."
