Home to Wineglass BayOpens in a new window and pink-granite mountains, this exceptional region has aquamarine waters, fantastic bushwalking trails, fresh seafood and local wines.

The Freycinet Peninsula is a region of rugged mountains, powdery white sands and seaside towns tucked into pretty coastal bushland. Unwind and relax when you discover this gem on Tasmania’s East Coast and the pristine landscapes of Freycinet National Park. Embark on day walks, sea-kayaking trips, snorkeling adventures and sightseeing cruises. After a day of exploring, relax and enjoy freshly shucked oysters paired with one of Freycinet’s excellent wines.

Among Freycinet’s highlights is the gently curving crescent Wineglass Bay, which can be reached via a rambling walking trail. Continue trekking to explore the rugged mountaintops of the Hazards Range and see views of beautiful Great Oyster Bay. During your walk, you might spot the seashells of Aboriginal middens, left over from centuries-old feasts of the Oyster Bay people.

Check out secluded beaches and grab your snorkel to see some of the diverse marine life. Rent a sea kayak and follow the curve of the coastline at Honeymoon Bay. Race the local dolphins and look back on the pink-granite boulders that emanate a warm glow at sunrise and sunset. Join a cruise to see some of Freycinet’s hotspots from the comfort of a sightseeing boat.

At the southern end of the peninsula, explore the uninhabited wilderness of Schouten Island. Check out Moulting Lagoon, one of the East Coast’s best sites for spotting black swans and migratory shorebirds. Journey through the coastal bushland on a four-wheel drive adventure to the Cape Tourville Lighthouse or book an abseiling session on the rugged Hazard cliffs.
