"If this isn’t the most expensive place in town, it must be pretty close. We were lucky, we feel, to get a room in the modern extension. It was a corner room and remarkable. The girl at the front desk tried to upgrade us for money and with her accent I couldn’t quite understand what the benefit to a different room would have been. It is hard for me to imagine a bedroom at this hotel. We used the spa and it is quite lovely and recently redone. However, a few of the features were not in operation, which was only slightly disappointing. I had a massage that was quite average, unfortunately. I’m glad I booked it with the hot stones. Otherwise I would’ve felt the benefit was not worth the money. I wasn’t expecting a sports massage, but this was too light to touch for my tastes. The restaurants and bars are all good to go. The hotel is on the “other” side of the river and I am of the belief this made for a quieter stay. You are a 10-15 minute walk from the center of the action. Nigel at the concierge was a top man."

"Lovely long weekend away. Excellent location about a 20-minute walk from the station. Really close to York Barbicon if you are going to see a concert.Staff were wonderful.The hotel provided a hearty breakfast which was included. The room was spotlessly cleaned and room cleaning came well in the afternoon so wasn’t intrusive.There is an endless supply of tea.We were drinking in the bar one night,there seemed no closing time and when they found out about our anniversary they gave us a free round of drinks - which was totally unexpected and really kind."

"Really loved the hotel. Bedroom is nice and simple. There are a few cracks about and licks of paint needed but otherwise the hotel stands nicely and is a comfortable place to stay. I will say the rooms on the upper floors are warm from the rising heat but the hotel provided a fan which was great. All in all a comfortable stay!"

"Really lovely stay. Own car park (need to pay, but welcomed as next to hotel!) Good for couples, friends or families. Lovely walk into York centre by the river. We booked for short walk to Barbican & it was perfect for this. Great large bedroom, spotless Great bar, excellent breakfast with everything you could want. Friendly, professional & efficient staff. No issues whatsoever"
