Holiday Inn Express Exeter East by IHG
10/10 Excellent
"The only negative I can think of was the placement of the heating/ac unit which was right next to the bed. Not a big deal since I have stay in places with way noisier units in the rooms."

Hotel Du Vin Exeter
8/10 Good
"We stayed for one night and had a mixed experience. Unfortunately, the heating in the room wasn’t working when we arrived, but when we reported it to reception they were helpful and quickly provided a portable heater, which warmed the bedroom well enough.
There was a noticeable amount of mould present in the bathroom, which isn’t something you expect at this price point. The layout of the bath/shower also means there is a window and windowsill within, so water splashes directly onto the sill and blinds when showering. Combined with the mould and the flaking paint around the window, it made the bathroom feel quite run down and in need of maintenance.
On the positive side, the bed, pillows and duvet were extremely comfortable and we slept very well. The curtains also did a great job of blocking out the light.
Overall, the stay was comfortable enough for one night, but given the price and the expectations that come with a Hotel du Vin, the room felt a little tired and not quite worth the cost. It has the feel of a luxury hotel, but one that could benefit from some maintenance and updating. Toby on reception was very friendly and helpful. "

The Gissons Hotel

"There is no-one in reception. On the night we arrived a very loud alarm went off at around 20 to midnight so after 5 minutes I had to go out of our room to investigate what was happening. It was an alarm from the restaurant area that was closed. There was no number to call in case of emergency.I called the fire alarm people using the number on the wall and the guy told me it wasn't a fire alarm.I then called the only number available for the hotel (a landline number) and no-one answered.By the time I got back to my room at 1 a.m., the alarm finally stopped. To get to the rooms from reception there was a fire door that was wedged open both nights that we were there. We wouldn't go back there."
