Music festivals, museums and exhibitions combine with Swedish history and motoring events to make Emmaboda an exciting destination.
Emmaboda is a small village in Småland which offers a large range of cultural events. Its a place where you can visit both music and car festivals, enjoy museums with everything from glass exhibitions to stories about yesteryear, or just stroll around the beautiful countryside.
Emmaboda is located in an area that's full to the brim with history. It sits on the site where the farmer Nils Dacke waged his struggle for freedom against the Swedish king and bailiffs, and where Wilhelm Moberg wrote his famous books on the Småland crofters. The town is also a part of the Kingdom of Crystal - an area in Småland which has been known for its glassworks from as far back as 1700.
When you travel to Emmaboda, a visit to The Glass Factory is an absolute must. This experience-focused glass museum houses a collection of glass art with almost 40,000 objects made by around 50 different artists. In addition to the collection, the museum also hosts several events and exhibitions for both children and adults.
While you're here, be sure to take a trip to the Rundqvista Estate in Duvemåla, made famous by the stories of Wilhelm Moberg. Here you can get an insight into what life was like in the early 1900s, when subsistence farming was very common. The area is also surrounded by some very beautiful natural landscapes, with meadows, fences and traditional stone walls.
Music fans should take the opportunity to visit Emmaboda during the summer when the Emmaboda Festival is held. The festival has been running since 1988, when it started up as a one-day event. Today, the festival runs for five days and focuses on electronic music.
Motoring enthusiasts will be able to get their kicks in Emmaboda as well. Emmaboda was an early centre for car sales in Sweden, and the village has hosted a number of motocross, rally and enduro racing championships over the years. There are also a number of motoring events that take place each year on the Emmaboda Flight Path.
Emmaboda's location between the towns of Växjö, Kalmar and Karlskrona makes the city an important railway junction along the Coast-to-Coast Line. With six different airports within a sixty kilometre radius, it’s very easy to travel to Emmaboda.
