Eastern Montana hotel rooms a the Independent

"When you put yourself out there as a high end hotel, an established mainstay and icon of the local history one expects a bit more when staying here. As a matter of fact my wife stayed here about 18 months prior and had a great experience. However, there was nothing truly remarkable about our stay and as a note, there were things that occurred here that didn't happen at a much lower rated place two years ago on my last visit. 4 day stay - no vacuum, empty coffee cups left on tables, bathroom toilet not cleaned among many of the quirks. No "How was your stay?" upon check out and no assistance with luggage upon check out and valet. It was almost as if it didn't matter and they couldn't be bothered. Not to say that there were not individual successes such as the young man at Bernie's who tended to our breakfast and a nice bartender and waitress at TEN while we enjoyed a late night snack, but, this is expected. I am not saying it was horrible. Nice bed, easy in and out. But no wow factor, no bang for the buck and certainty no long lasting impression that says "WOW - I got to stay here again!". A legacy of luxury since 1902... Your resting on your laurels."

"Ledgestone has been my go to hotel for a couple years but my least two stays have been disappointing. Our first room smelled so incredibly bad…like death kind of bad. We immediately returned to the desk and requested a new room. They were kind and got us a new room but there was an edge of annoyance. She followed me back up and started spraying the room while a grabbed my stuff. Our second room also smelled bad. Bit as awful as the first but not good. I did not feel confident about after my first interaction to ask for a different room. We stayed two nights and the smell never left. I sprayed perfume and we left the window open as often as we could but we were on the first floor. I asked the cleaning lady for her neutralizing spray but that didn’t work so I grabbed Febreeze at my Target run to get us thru the weekend. It’s pretty gross to sit in stink 48 hours and pay over $250 for it."

"Booked a 2 bed room, room 30 minutes to check in (it was not busy) and was given a single bed. Went back to front desk to request the 2 bed we booked, took another 40 minutes. Got a new room, again it was a single bed. Thankfully she processed us again quickly and got into an appropriate room. Not necessarily the desk clerks fault as she was obviously very new. Management needs to ensure proper training before leaving staff alone on shift. Room was basic, clean but dated. Also requested room with bathtub, only had a shower."

"Loved the lighting of the parking area. Very modern and clean. Not the best shower pressure but it worked. Also one flashing light on the ceiling (maybe smoke alarm) that was a bit obnoxious when trying to sleep. Otherwise it was great and would stay there again. Staff was super nice."
