Originally, Saxony’s catholic rulers worshipped in the royal chapel but following the construction of the large protestant Frauenkirche in the mid-18th century it was decided that a larger catholic church was needed. Today, the Hofkirche towers some 272 feet (83 meters) above the city center. Admire its Baroque architecture, including the belfry that rises above the front façade. Look for the 78 statues of historical and biblical figures that line the balustrades of the cathedral.
