"What a special place! We arrived in the surf, to be greeted by Dylan and his staff who grabbed our bags and suitcases and brought them up to the room. We then had pineapple smoothies and talked to Dylan, who I produced us to the routines there. You tell them when you want to eat. Eat! It's more like floating in gourmet heaven. The food is out of this world!!! The room was many steps up a rocky staircase, do prepare for earning your heavenly food. The view from the room takes your breath away. Do download the free app Merlin that will help you identify the many birds you will hear and see there. The shower, equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash, has two shower heads for a nice couples shower. There is no air conditioning, but the screened "ceiling" openings (really, up on the wall) let in enough air to cool you down sufficiently. We had to turn down the ceiling fan speed in a heat wave to keep from shivering. We will definitely return here again! "
"Sunset Lodge truly did have one of the best views in Drake bay! It’s worth spending a little more to get the bungalow with the pool. It was great hanging out on the deck after a day at the beach or doing a guided activity. Also, if you like birding it’s a great spot to sit and watch! We had parrots and macaws flying over and landing in the trees right next to the bungalow. There were several local iguanas that live in the trees as well!
We stayed in the Deluxe Cabin which had two AC minisplits that kept the inside nice and cool. The private pool on the deck was awesome - it was clean, cool, and VERY refreshing. Breakfast was also convenient and delicious. The only thing with Sunset Lodge is you do have to hike up some steps from the main road to get there (but is why the view is so good). We did the hike multiple times a day and it’s not too bad, 5 minutes to the beach. Would absolutely stay again!"
"Hotel Margarita had an amazing vibe, it was blending with nature perfectly. Our room has a nice glass wall facing trees and forests. Every morning a very handsome woodpecker would come and curiously check us, it was really unique. The pool was nice, the staff was super polite and helpful, breakfast was nice and quite filling (fruits, coffee and juice on top of your main option.). The only main disadvantage was the cleanness of our room. We found hair in the pillows and bed sheets which made us believe it is from the previous people. We asked the first day to have our linens changed, and we found again hair over them. This made us a bit sceptical of the cleanness, plus the bathroom mirror had dorst stamps when we entered. The bathroom also had what looked like a water leakage from the bathtub to the floor, which was giving an unpleasant odour in the bathroom in the morning. If these things were fixed, it would really be 5/5, a real paradise experience!!"
"Property was extremely clean, breakfast was amazing and organized the night before so we could eat and head out quickly. Pick up from the beach was prompt and also organized ahead of time. Beautiful view from our room - definitely would stay again!"
"Great property in a lovely area. The perfect place to enjoy the Drake area. Very good tours. Brilliant staff. Clientele all very chilled out and low key. "
"Room was clean although the bed was fairly soft & a little uneven. Unfortunately we were right by the pool with the pool towels (clean & a dirty basket) was by our door so people were often right by our door. Once we returned and a lady was holding a towel up so the other woman could change in front of our door! Talking from those at the pool went right through the window glass. There was supposed to be a 10 pm quiet hour but our neighbors didn’t pay attention to it.
On the good side, the staff was very helpful with setting up taxis & tours as well as general info. Breakfast was adequate with a choice of 5 meals."
"The welcome by being collected on the beach and having our luggage taken to the room was a nice touch. The room itself was clean and the view was gorgeous.
We were disappointed with the general service, particularly in the hotels restaurant. We booked a table on the first evening and it wasn't ready when we arrived, with the staff seeming stressed at our arrival. We were sat down 15 minutes late and the food took over an hour to arrive, during which time we were not visited once by the staff and the tables around us were left dirty. This was despite the restaurant being quite empty close to the end of service.
There wasn't many staff available on site to talk to, and it felt like quite an inconvenience to them when you had a request. This does not include the girl who was volunteering with the hotel who was very helpful."
