Domburg is one of the oldest seaside resorts in the Netherlands and has a long tradition as a health resort. It was founded in the 19th century after a number of people from Middelburg decided to bathe here in the sea. At the beginning of the 20th century it was a health resort for the wealthy and a source of inspiration for famous artists such as Piet Mondriaan and Jan Toorop.
One of Domburg's most famous points of interest is just outside town: Kasteel Westhove. Walk there along Domburg's beach and enjoy this piece of Zeeland's history. Then unwind in one of Domburg's spas. If you enjoy playing golf, you can always hit a few balls at the Domburgsche Golfclub.
Another must-see is the Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum. Terra Maris is a child-friendly museum on the nature and landscape of Zeeland. If you'd like to do something cultural, try the Polderhuis in nearby Westkapelle. Combine your exploration of Domburg, the seaside and the surrounding area with a day out in Middelburg, where you can do some shopping or take a boat tour.
Domburg's location in the middle of Zeeland’s nature means that it has a lot of activities to offer. You can hire a bicycle, go horse riding or walk along the beach to one of the neighbouring villages. You can also just enjoy looking at the ocean while relaxing at one of the beach pavilions.
Domburg doesn’t have a train station and is best reached by car. You can get there by public transport but it does take a lot longer. Take a train to Middelburg and change there for the local bus service.
Domburg is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet few days away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
