"It's a student halls of residence. If that's what you're expecting I would imagine you'd be very happy with the room. If you're expecting a hotel, it's not a hotel. It was exactly as I was expecting. Comfortable, no frills, perfectly fine for a one night stay for me. Wifi was great. A little bit of noise at times, it's student accommodation, but not too noisy by a long way. I recently stayed at the IBIS in Bristol and that was far noisier. Would happily book again for a short stay."

"This was an excellently decorated & comfortably furnished apartment, perfectly located in a quiet location in the main part of town. We parked a short distance away at the ASDA car park, which was reasonably priced via the JustPark app. Helpful owners & excellent communication. We didn’t use the cooking equipment as the apartment was close to a number of chain restaurants - we did notice that there was no sharp knife nor microwave but otherwise was very well equipped. 10/10 Excellent

"Booked the “cosy” double and it was perfect for one night as a stop off to break up a long drive. Shower was really nice. Mattress on the firmer side which is not my preference but some people don’t like soft so can’t please everyone. Staff were friendly and both check in and out were a doddle. Would stay again."

"Overall, this was a nice hotel with friendly staff. The room was a decent size, the bed was comfortable, and the grounds were pleasant. The other facilities, although I didn’t use them, also appeared to be of a good standard. I was surprised that the bathroom did not contain a bath, and although the shower was pleasant enough there was plenty of space for a bath to have been available. The biggest disappointment however was being charged an additional £13.50 per night for parking - I don’t recall seeing this anywhere in the listing information or pre-arrival information (although acknowledge I may have overlooked this) but for the price of the room (which is already high) I would expect parking for guests to be included."

"The hotel was well located for the wedding we attended at clearwell castle and was a good price for the area. However, the whole building suffers from creaky floorboards which make an absolute racket anytime anybody moves, which means once somebody decides to be up, there is no more sleep for you. The beds are also quite hard and the rooms were stuffy with no fans provided. I also thought the bathroom could have benefitted from a deep clean. Overall it was ok, but I wouldn’t go back."

"Great location, lovely staff, comfy bed. Room and furnishings all looking pretty tired and like they could do with an update, and what looked like mould on the bathroom ceiling presumably due to the lack of ventilation there. Breakfast was fairly average. Would stay again but best not to have particularly high expectations."

"My family stayed in 2 superior rooms for one night. There is no lift so luggage has to be carried up the stairs. Room 14 was on the first floor and huge, room 30 was on the second floor and slightly smaller. The shower was over the bathtub with a curtain. The staff in the restaurant and elsewhere were excellent and we enjoyed the food (bearing in mind this is a Greene King, not a Michelin starred restaurant :). There are lovely views from the patio where you can have a drink from the bar. For the price, we were very happy with our stay and would certainly recommend the hotel to others."

"The room was beautifully clean. No horrible black mould in the shower. The bed was slightly too soft for me but im sure other people would appreciate it. I ate in the restaurant and enjoyed my meal. It was lovely sitting outside on the roof terrace. All the staff, I encountered were polite, and very helpful. Its a pity the hotel doesn't have a carpark but Friars walk is only a short distance away. Newport itself is rather run down and unfortunately has a lot of empty shop premises but it is extremely convenient for visiting Cardiff. I would be very happy to stay there again."
