Quiet, 100 year old hotel in a Kansas farm town. Perfect if you're tired of cookie cutter motels.

The hotel is closed. We knocked on the door. No one around. We called the number on the building and no answer. We ended up staying at Dighton Inn and the room there was clean and comfortable.

Closed hotel took my booking
In March I booked a room for June 3. It charged my credit card on May 26. When we arrived on June 3 the owner told me the hotel had been closed for weeks for remodeling. Why hadn’t the owner told anyone that?
Not the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, but close. When I arrived to check in, no one at desk, a number to call, that was based in the Virgin Islands. Called hotels.com after a few tries they found someone who relayed message my room was open head on in. Broken curtain rods, prevented me from trying to block street lights out. Trash under bed and behind dresser. Bed stiff as a board. It was rainy and window so I don't know if the knocking coming from the turned off heat/air unit was rain hitting it or wind rattling it. Floor by dresser was... squisy? with a screw into the floor sticking up, I have no clue what this is piecing together.
Historic is a code phrase for ancient and run down.
The desk person/guest was really sweet and tried to be accommodating....however i waited 25 minutes before anyone even came to front desk. Then the guest who was serving as desk person had to call owner to get help with checking me in, they couldn't find my reservation even after me giving them all the info from Expedia multiple times. Finally after like another half an hour the owner said she could get me a room, they just needed to clean it....i went to grab dinner (it's around 8pm), came back and was told room was ready. It was freezing cold in room, they had some sort of radiator heater plugged in, there were hairs on the bathroom mirror, sink, shower and comforter.....i put comforter in floor, used my coat as a pillow and slept in my clothes...i would have slept in my truck if it hadn't been so cold. Only nice thing i can say about this place is the sweet old oil field guy who was trying to run the front desk.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The property is indeed older and needs some help with upkeep, but everything I want in a hotel room was there: a shower, clean bed, tv with TCM, and great WiFi. It was an overall good experience to stay here in the very small High Plains community of Dighton.
There were some interesting old pianos and other antiques in the lobby. To bad it was too dark to see them. Pretty staircase. Very quiet. We may have been the only guests. A/C worked well and we slept soundly. There was someone else's garbage in the trash can and a used bar of soap and opened shampoo in the shower. Initially there were no towels but the hotel clerk quickly brought some mismatched scraggly towels. My dog has better towels. Carpet had many stains. We paid $15 extra for a queen bed but got a double. Room was quite small.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Overall the stay was okay. Stayed a week and never had house cleaning empty the trash or bring in new bedding or bath towels. Room did not lock as the key had not been returned by a previous guest. Room was pretty outdated and the ceiling was missing tiles in the drop down ceilings, leaving a huge hole between the second floor and my room.
But the bed was comfortable and the staff was friendly. If your looking for a place to catch a quick night of sleep at an affordable price, not a bad place
We stopped for one rainy night to avoid setting up tents in the dark and sleeping in the rain. The hotel is a rather aged one, but well kept, clean. It was not expansive, but we weren't really cramped either. One downside was that the beds were not very comfortable, so I didn't sleep well. However considering the alternative we probably slept quite well and the price was more than reasonable for for the amount of room we received. Check-in was outstandingly friendly. I suspect that if I'd asked, they'd go out an hang the moon for us. Very welcoming and friendly. We walked the character-filled, creaky stairs, to our decently appointed room and pretty much fell asleep. We showered in a pretty spacious bathroom and went on our way. It was a nice stay with nicer people in a nice little community. Again, the price was more than reasonable, and we were on our way to our holiday weekend campout getaway. If we were to travel through again, I'd not hesitate to book this hotel again.

historic hotel a few miles from where George Washington Carver homesteaded and farmed to borrow $300.00 on it to pay his way to college. The farm is not a show place, nor is the hotel, but the latter will be soon. As of July, 2021, it's still a work in progress for road trippers seeking authenticity off the Interstate franchise moteldom. The antique piano and fireplace are there awaiting proper arrangement and the quirky room, 'tho clean and comfortable, was more quirky than quaint. The staff, however, are interesting and charming and made up the incompleteness of the vision.
Service & people very friendly. Room was clean for the most part. Could add a touch of modern to it. Shower was very small & dark. Need to lower shower curtain to help keep floor dry & so someone can have light.
This hotel was very nice. It had a nice HOMIE feeling to it. The lady that runs the place was very nice and helpful. It could use a small coffee maker since they dont provide breakfast. The window cooler keep the place nice and cool. This place allows pets for a small fee. I only stayed there one night. But, if i was to cross paths with hotel again i would stay there.
We enjoyed staying in an old historic building. Remember she is an old girl so don't expect the interior to be all new and fancy. But it's definitely a neat place ,the beds were super comfy. My kids ages 19,19,15,17 thoughtbit was cool and were scared at the same time they thought it might be haunted LOL! . You truly get a home vibe there.
A great old hotel. Super friendly, welcoming, and easy. The rooms are huge, and everything was clean and functional. The curtains could use an upgrade, but otherwise I loved everything about this place. It IS a budget hotel, so keep your expectations in check.
I lady at desk nice, but room uncomfortable. Street lights shining in.... noisy heater... only passable bedding... not great!!! Was happy when morning came!
The only place around, this charming family-run hotel makes you immediately feel cozy, comfortable, and right at home. At over 100 years old, the Historic Heritage Hotel is being renovated and returned to its former golden days. Though simple (for now, at least), this is the perfect getaway for friends and couples, and a perfect stopover for off-the-beaten-path travelers and even business people in the area. No hassle, no fuss, no frills, it was a great landing spot after a long day of traveling through the fields of Kansas. The rooms are small, clean, basic, yet homely. The young people running the place are extremely humble and friendly, attentive and kind.
