In the village of Herkersdorf (17 km south of Freudenberg) you can find the “Druidenstein”, a legendary basalt cone, located at 457 m altitude in the picturesque landscape of the Westerwald. According to tradition, Celtic priests built a place of worship on the Druid stone in pre-Christian times. On this sacrificial site, the Germanic goddess ‘Herka’ was worshiped (hence the name of the village: Herkersdorf). "Don't recommend. First you have to check in BEFORE you can park in the garage. Which means first I had look for street parking, then walk to the Hotel. It may not sound like that big a deal, but the Hotel is located next to a concert hall. So good luck finding street parking. Next they never cleaned room. House keeping literally skipped my room for the two nights I was there. The breakfast was also not very good. It was very small with little selection. It is in a nice location, next to the water and the rooftop bar was nice too. Otherwise, it is hard to recommend."
