"The room was massive and clearly newly decorated. It was let down on the first night by the previous occupants filthy towels still being in the room.
The other major issue with the room is the noise. The room is at the front of the hotel and the noise from the revellers outside and the sound system just below the room meant no sleep.
There should be a new word for places that charge you to stay but you can’t actually get any sleep.
On the plus side the staff were friendly and the cocktails...

"Check in was quick and easy. Staff were helpful and polite, even moved me from a room in the inn to an annexe room so I could be away from noise from bar. Also had a very good breakfast which is extra but excellent value for money. Definitely recommend it hotel and breakfast."

"We stayed in a suite - very reasonably priced, spacious and well equipped with 2 TVs. Room details said that the bed was King sized - it seemed quite a bit smaller than that, but definitely bigger than a usual double.
Chats bar had a good choice of bar meals and snacks. The main restaurant was only opened for breakfast, but there was plenty of choice in surrounding areas like Blyth and Newcastle.
Travel around the locality and beyond was good. There was a golf course next door, and getting to Newcastle was easy on the bus when we didn’t want to use the car.
Staff were great, always helpful and cheerful, especially the reception and housekeeping teams."
"Lovely hotel, friendly staff, clean and spacious room with food air con. Pool, sauna and steam room facilities were superb....breakfast also fantastic...a great stay"
"Quick , efficient and welcoming check in.
Spacious car park
Rooms are very clean and comfortable with aircon and a good range of , tea, coffee, biscuits etc. The breakfast was very good with a good variety of self serve and menu options.
There is a bus stop just outside the hotel and despite being on a busy road the hotel is quiet.

"A very unique place to stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful, I couldn’t praise them enough, especially the breakfast staff and the Library bar staff. They were always smiling and happy to chat. We stayed in a courtyard superior room that was very big with a very large and comfortable bed. We were on the ground floor and were able to park our car by the room each day. The stairs and floor in the bedroom above us were very creaky but it’s to be expected with the age of the property. Breakfast had lots of choices and was very enjoyable. We ate in the Library Bar most evenings and the food was amazing! The outdoor terrace was a lovely place to sit in the evenings. The castle itself was stunning with lots of original features. I would highly recommend it and hope to visit again."
"We tried to sign in on line but the link didn't work. We had to complete the sign in which took ages. The screen form was certainly not user friendly. No address look up from a post code, didn't recognise England as a country, or UK or Great Britain. What a welcome to the hotel!
Room was ok but no opening windows so it was like a sauna. There was a fan in the room.
Breakfast was excellent made better by the attention given by Michael and Lorraine. If you need a bus Lorraine knows the best way to get from A to B."
"What a fantastic place to stay! Peaceful, historic, and exceptionally well managed and staffed. There are stairs, but this minor bother is offset by the overall quality of this fine establishment."
