Taastrup

Travel Guide

A holiday in Taastrup offers experiences for large and small.

Taastrup is the largest town in Høje-Taastrup. The town is located halfway between Copenhagen and Roskilde and can be used as a base for visits to these cities. However, the cities don’t necessarily have it all. The charming old shopping street, Taastrup Hovedgade, can be found next to Taastrup Station and offers a great selection of shops and eateries.

You can also spend your holiday in Taastrup on outdoor activities as there are plenty of lovely nature areas and parks around the town. The town has many playgrounds and exercise parks and trails where you can walk, run or ride. Just outside the town you will find Vallensbæk Mose, where there is a broad range of activities on offer. You can ride, fish, canoe or simply enjoy nature on foot or by bike.

If you are interested in astronomy, you should visit Kroppedal Museum, where you can learn about the history of Danish astronomy, Ole Rømer and the life and work of other astronomers. The museum has both permanent and temporary exhibitions on astronomy and archaeology.

If you visit Taastrup between April and November you can visit the Taastrup Water Tower, which dates back to 1908, on the first Saturday of each month. The tower opened as a lookout tower in 2009 and immediately became a popular attraction among locals and tourists. Access to the tower is free of charge.

If you want to be entertained, Taastrup has both a theatre and a cinema. Taastrup Theatre's repertoire is wide-ranging. You can see plays for children, as well as dance and music. The cinema is situated at City2, a large shopping centre which has 90 stores, an enormous indoor play park and several eateries.

Taastrup is easy to reach by train from Copenhagen, with its international airport offering flights to UK destinations. The journey takes around 30 minutes. Many visitors choose to stay in Copenhagen and take a day trip to Taastrup, but the town has plenty to offer in terms of shopping, culture and nature, and is worth a longer visit.

"This was a perfect hotel for a city break. It has everything you need - a comfy bed, bathroom facilities and great options for breakfast. The only negative was that there was no air conditioning, the dial on the wall did not work in either of the two rooms we booked, so it became very warm at night. ..."
