"This is our second stay at the Irish Cottage Inn, the first being during Covid. So we were delighted to see tea, scones, and cucumber sandwiches set out in the afternoon in the lobby when we arrived. Off the lobby is a lovely library room where one can enjoy some quiet time. There is also an small on-sight gift shop with Irish-themed items that was fun to check out. The staff was friendly and courteous. We didn't encounter any issues during our stay.
Our previous room faced the back of the property and overlooked a small meadow and woods. This time, our room faced the front and was on the entry floor of the parking lot (we usually request an upper floor, but I don't recall that the Expedia reservation gave us the option to request something like that). In any case, we weren't as thrilled with the placement of the room, but it was very clean and the bed was comfortable (although the cushions on the chairs were extremely hard). The fitness room was average in terms of equipment, the pool was fine, but the hot tub looked a bit cloudy, so I didn't try it out.
One of the bonuses of this property is that it includes a great restaurant--Frank O'Dowd's Pub which has live music during some evenings, and this is also where a really nice breakfast is served in the morning. The breakfast included hot offerings (with _real_ scrambled eggs, bacon, and cinnamon French toast the day we were there) as well as fresh fruit, nicely flavored and textured oatmeal, and fresh bread and scones."
"A friend of mine went there to enjoy Galena's Illumination of the city. We spent our off time at the resort and as a resort I really thought it would have WiFi TV. But this was not the case, very disappointed. "
"The one thing I will caution future guests about is breakfast. It’s one menu selection (there is no menu to choose from) for everyone every morning. So if you’re a picky eater or have lots of food sensitivities, this could be a real hassle. It is served in your room only, and delivery runs a bit on island time. So if you have timed plans in the morning, make sure to give yourself an extra half hour buffer to account for possible breakfast delays.
Other than that, I had an absolutely fabulous stay. The fireplace in the room was my favorite feature. Bed and bedding were like sleeping on a cloud. Book a suite with river view if possible. The view is quite wonderful!
I saw the inn keeper every day. He’s very friendly, talks to everyone, and truly wants you to have a wonderful stay.
I highly recommend dinner at least once at the restaurant there. The food is exquisite! Keep in mind that lunch and snacks aren’t offered. Bring things from home, there’s a fridge and microwave in every room."
"My friend and I were very happy with the cabin. It was beautiful and located in the forest. Huge windows allowed us to enjoy the beauty outside as well. I had a little trouble locating it and the owner offered to stay on the phone with me to point out directions. I recommend this cabin to others."
