The rural village of Churchill is located within the county of Somerset, Southwest England, bordering both Gloucestershire and Dorset.

If it is a holiday in the picturesque English countryside that you are after then Churchill will not disappoint. Somerset has many rural villages and small market towns to explore, allowing you to really get a taste for the English country life. It’s not all green fields and stone ditches though as the area is also home to many stunning beach caves and moors, making Churchill a real gem in the English crown.

There is a wide range of accommodation options to choose from when looking for somewhere to stay in Somerset. With hotels to suit all budgets, country manors and B&Bs on offer, come escape the hustle and bustle of everyday city life.

Take a Dip with the Romans!

The Roman Baths in Somerset are a must see for any visitor to the area. These spectacular baths have been preserved for thousands of years, so you can get a real sense of the history behind this area. Accompanied by an audio tour, which is very informative, you cannot fail to be interested in the history of the baths. Or the Roman buildings that surround them. With over one million visitors each year, the Roman Baths in Bath are one of the most visited heritage attractions in the UK.

Spend a couple of hours in the relaxing atmosphere of Wells Cathedral, constructed in the English Gothic architectural style with a stunning façade and 50 metre high towers. Beautifully cared for and used by many, you will be impressed by this great cathedral, one of England’s finest in so many ways.

Things to See and Do

If you enjoy museums, the Museum of Somerset is well worth getting along to. Learn about the history of the area, from the prehistoric times, right up to the present day. The imaginative displays grab the attention of children and adults alike, and contain the largest collection of Roman coins ever discovered in Britain. The museum contains a chilling account of the famous Bloody Assizes, which all contribute to making the Museum a must see visitor attraction.

Bring the family to Cheddar Caves and Gorge, perfect for anyone seeking a day packed with fun and adventure in equal measures. The scenic walk up the Gorge is fantastic, one of Britain’s biggest, with dramatic cliff faces rising up to 450ft. Audio guides will lead you around the caves themselves, perfect for providing some understanding into these ice-age caverns.

Somerset has a wide selection of beaches to choose from, such as Kilve and Berrow, both perfect for children to enjoy with miles of golden sand to play in. Weston Super Mare Beach has a pier and provides a great outdoor family experience, with plenty of attractions for the kids. There’s also a train that runs along the pier, which makes getting about even easier.

Visit Glastonbury

Glastonbury in Somerset is not only popular for its annual music festival (although it’s certainly a big pull) but also Glastonbury Tor, a huge hill in this stunning town, which atop sits the majestic, roofless St Michael’s Tower. The town itself is a nice place to relax over a cup of tea or coffee whilst the views from the top of the Tor are amazing, stretching out across the whole county.

Like many English counties, Somerset has its own historic bridge. The Pulteney Bridge in Bath is one such place, situated in the city centre. The bridge is of classical design with little shops alongside it. Built in the 1700s, it is still in use today and is the perfect location for taking some time out to sit watch the world go by.
