"I've had two wonderful stays at The Rambler, so a couple sour experiences during this one likely won't dissuade me from visiting again, but I did want to include them:
The Rambler is a visual delight. Standard motel-type amenities, but retro theming and vivid colors make each room cheerful/vibrant and that makes all the difference. It was a King+ so we got a fridge, which was cute, large, and robust. The motel/room was clean and well-maintained, though the area is a bit run-down.
It's was Mom's birthday, she loved it as expected! I brought her a cute notebook to go with the adorable Rambler pens that come in the rooms. (Tilt it and a car "drives" down!) So finding a plain Bic was a bummer. The front desk- who had a big jar of them available for sale- said they must have "run out" of complimentary ones.
The biggest issue: I chose to extend my stay by one day after Mom's flight home, so we could keep our stuff there all that day and leisurely pack. They extended it, all is good. Then we left for lunch out at 2:30- precisely timed for Mom's special diet- and see a new posted note "Planned power outage- no light, wi-fi, or A/C 10 pm-6 am". They were surprised too when they found out that weekend -but that'd been *days* ago, yet they didn't say a thing when I extended! I said obviously I wanted to cancel, but they'd charge a half night if I wasn't out by 3. I talked them into 4 p.m. since we HAD to eat first, but it was such a scramble and unfortunate rush to end a fun trip."
