Examine dinosaur fossils, drive across scenic Historic Highway 89, learn about Mormon pioneer heritage and get outdoors to enjoy this region’s state parks.

In Central Utah, discover Mormon heritage, dinosaur fossils, ancient Native American rock art, and more. Drive along its historic highway, walk through its charming towns or hike through its sprawling wilderness.

Explore Richfield, the hub of Central Utah. Pioneers who settled the city in 1864 named it in honor of its fertile soil, and it remains strongly rooted in agriculture today. Because it is located about halfway between Los Angeles and Denver, Richfield is a popular stop for automobile travelers.

See a world-renowned collection of Jurassic-era dinosaur bones at the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. Examine the reconstructed skeleton of an adult Allosaurus in the visitor center.

Admire the rugged beauty of San Rafael Swell. Discover unique sandstone rock formations, winding canyons and stunning panoramas. Snap a photo of the view from the Wedge Overlook, which looks out across the San Rafael River as it snakes through the Little Grand Canyon.

Learn about Central Utah’s Native American history at the Fremont Indian State Park and Museum. Discover their ancient petroglyphs and artifacts including pottery and baskets.

Check out the exhibits at USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum in downtown Price. See full dinosaur skeletons, clay Fremont figurines and bones from Ice Age mammals, among other artifacts.

Drive along Historic Highway 89, which runs through the center of the state along its north-west route between the Canadian border and Flagstaff, Arizona. Pass through some of the region’s most charming villages, including Fairview, Mt. Pleasant, Ephraim and Manti. Stop along your drive to explore the scenic Fishlake National Forest and Dixie National Forest.

In the Mormon Pioneer Heritage Area, learn about the Mormons who settled Utah. Stop by the impressive Manti Utah Temple, the fifth constructed temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Explore Spring City, a picturesque Mormon settlement on the National Register of Historic Places.

From natural wonders to dinosaur artifacts to Mormon history, Central Utah has it all. Hop in your car and explore this unique stretch of wilderness along one of the country’s most memorable highways.
