Great cosy little B&B which has just 8 rooms so is nice and private.
Front of house was very friendly and helpful with lots of tips of what to do in the area.
Cute continental breakfast provided with some of the best pastries you can eat.
As it is an old building the floorboard creak quite loudly and can be disturbing to other guests however ear plugs provided!
Everything we hoped for from a guesthouse. Friendly welcome. Nice to come down for breakfast and meet other guests and made feel welcome. Nice clean room. A delightful stay and would recommend it.
This is a great little hotel to stay in Castlemaine. It might not be five star, or look all that fancy but everything was very pleasant. The room was well curated with some lovely artistic pieces; the bed was not too soft and not too firm; the pillows were just right and the towels in the bathroom were genuinely some of the nicest towels I've had in a hotel or motel in a long time (and I'm including some supposedly much 'posher' hotels that don't get the towels right!). The owner was also lovely; we had a great chat in the morning as we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast downstairs in the former hotel bar and art space; complete with freshly made coffee. So, all in all, for what is really just an old pub that has been turned into a little hotel - it was very pleasant and a great little stay.
As for location - whilst a little bit out of the town centre it was only a ten minute walk which we enjoyed because you pass some great houses and the streets of Castlemaine have so much character; and around the corner from The Mill - a space with a brewery and an Austrian style cafe which serves great Austrian coffee, food and cakes.
We liked the atmosphere and the quirky decor.
Maggie is a great host and made us feel at home throughout our stay.
The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was outstanding.
A great place to stay!

A friendly place to stay - rooms well appointed and all within walking distance to the town.
Maggie and Badger were very welcoming on my arrival. Despite my leaving at 6am in the morning, breakfast provisions were laid out and ready for me to help myself as promised. The home made poached fruits were delicious and such an appreciated personal touch. My room had everything I needed and I felt extremely comfortable and secure. The balcony is a lovely spot to sit and the hotel itself is a truly unique and lovely boutique experience. Highly recommended!
Lovely one night stay in an old refurbished "Art" type hotel. Very friendly owner, comfortable bed welcoming room and I'm sure when the new owner has finished her plans it will be even better. Recommended.
We had a lovley stay or the hotel. Communication was excellent and the owner was so accommodating and friendly. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.
Beautiful artwork and objects throughout. If you’re after clean and modern, then this is not the place for you, but if you appreciate the quirky and beautiful then you won’t be disappointed.

Everything was done tastefully. Old world feel and furnishings are great and Sue is very welcoming .
Nice comfortable hotel. Good facilities and nice self serve breakfast options. No one was there when we arrived, but a quick phone call and we were given access code and told where to find room keys, so no problems. Town is interesting, with nice buildings, steam railway and if you are into cars, visit the Rod shop. Hotel was slightly further from centre of town than we realised, but still walkable. Overall very good.

we found our stay to be quite noisy. the hotel was full and as it is so old you can hear whenever anyone walks up the stairs, or down the corridor to use the bathroom, and even when your neighbors wake at 6 am and chat all morning, everything is heard.
our room was very clean and the bed sheets white and crispy. but unfortunately for us, we found it too noisy to be able to relax and have a sleep in. there was also no wardrobe in the room. we stayed in the olsen King ensuite room. too expensive for the what we received.
For the same price we stayed in a gorgeous Villa at Hepburn Springs the night after.
A continental breakfast is included, its not great. there is bread thats not bought in fresh every morning so is only good to toast. No pastries, no cold meats, if you lucky the fruit might be fresh for a little fruit to go with your toast! The coffee is made by the host and that is nice. but otherwise no trouble is taken to give you a nice breakfast. Better to forgo breakfast and go to the bakery at the side of the hotel and get fresh bread, pastries, etc.
The host is friendly.
A little way out of the center of town but still walkable. Rooms were minimalist but nice and comfortable. Some rooms have their bathrooms detached but not far away and they supply bathrobes.
Loved the interior design and attention to detail, fabulous customer service and the comfiest bed. A short walk into town. The perfect weekend getaway.
