California Desert hotel rooms a the Independent

"We stayed in s villa behind the resort. It was big and very convenient. However it was a bit trashy. The mini blinds were completely broke it didn’t look freshly cleaned. And it had a private Jacuzzi that didn’t work"

"Great value for the money. Pool and hot tub are nice. Staff is freindly. Property is a bit old. Area is safe but not charming "

"Irons didn’t work, staff was not helpful finding a working replacement (3rd time and 30 minutes later was a charm). Pool/hot tub had stones/edges falling off the ledge."

"Unfortunately, we were put in a room right next to the busy highway so heard the cars and loud motorcycles all night."

If you're seeking peace and quiet, would recommend staying in the standalone cabins as the hotel rooms have paper-thin walls and you can hear neighbors snoring, etc...Hotel staff was wonderful, but I had an awkward and uncomfortable experience at the Peak Restaurant. It was about 4pm when I walked in. The blonde bartender who was super loud and had an attitude grudgingly showed me to a table. She then went in the back to inform my waitress, and I heard a woman yell "Does that mean we can't close early!" right within earshot of my table. I mentioned it to her when she came to take my order, and she said "oh, its been slow so we were going to close but that's OK I'll serve you." Next thing you know all these people show up for dinner and it gets super busy. As restaurants tend to do. Super unprofessional. But that's just the restaurant. Food was awful too, wilted old lettuce in the sald. Will def go off site to eat next time."

"Pros: Large room was very clean when we arrived; delicious breakfast; bikes; mist machines at the pool; excellent margaritas. Cons: Lumpy uncomfortable beds; thin walls; dirty A/C and bathroom fans; pool water, pool deck and loungers not clean; gross smell in hallways; understaffed restaurant. Overall this is an aging property with bright paint and furnishings to mask its imperfections. The price was fair but we were not very comfortable."

"Fantastic pool deck. Bikes available to borrow. One block off main drag, easy walk. Rooms are small but pool and location made up for it! Great location and fun vibe."
