Learn more about Calakmul

Hidden deep in the jungle, the ancient Maya ruins of Calakmul feature two massive pyramids where howler monkeys swing through nearby trees. Climb the tallest structure for spectacular views above the forest canopy, then ask rangers which nearby trails offer the best wildlife spotting opportunities.

Calakmul has been my favorite mayan site, so far, and the hardest to reach.

The site is really big and its pyramids as big as the one in Chichen Itzá, covered almost completely by the jungle. It's like the mexican Angkor Wat.
