Bordered by stunning forest reserves and national parks, this charming heritage village is nestled within fragrant eucalyptus forests and beautiful gullies.

Bundanoon is a historic Southern Highlands village with the magnificent Morton National Park as its backyard. Its name in the local Aboriginal means “place of deep gullies”. Bundanoon is a charming town set in striking natural surroundings. Visit to get a feel for the Southern Highlands’ history between adventures in the beautiful bushland.

Walk or cycle through the compact township and investigate the town’s collection of antique and craft stores, as well as providores and cafés selling regional produce and wines. Find historic buildings, including late 19th-century churches. Health retreats offer massage therapy and wellness treatments in serene natural environments. Play golf on one of the nearby courses or visit a local vineyard and winery to sample some of the region’s finest wines.

Head to Meryla State Forest, Wingello State Forest and Morton National Park to explore the native bushland that extends to the east and south of Bundanoon. Check out natural wonders such as the Fairy Bower Falls, Fitzroy Falls and the mysterious Glow Worm Glen. Find the walking track near Bundanoon after dark and wander along the boardwalk. Standing quietly on the viewing platform with your torch off, you’ll see tiny glow worms lighting up throughout the sandstone grotto.

Visit in April for the famous Scottish-themed celebration at the Bundanoon Highland Gathering. Find yourself in Brigadoon for the day and see street parades, bagpipe bands, highland dancing and Scottish games. If you visit in spring, attend the annual Garden Ramble in October and gain access to some of Bundanoon’s most prized private gardens. Drive, cycle or catch the free shuttle bus travelling between the sprawling cool-climate gardens.

Bundanoon is less than a 2-hour drive from both Sydney and Canberra. Stay in its historic town centre or relax in bushland retreats. Bundanoon is a year-round destination, with beautiful English garden flowers blooming in spring and colourful native wildflowers in the forest reserves in late winter.

We took room with an ensuite. While they're very small, it does the job. There is no a/C which we knew about, but thankfully it was a cool night or it'd be very hot. Winter has heating. Now, if you can sleep through trains, yep more than one at night, then definitely stay here. It's a great old style ...
