The Place de la Bourse (Place Royale) faces onto the river Garonne. It was laid out in the 1700s by Louis XV's architect, Gabriel, to act as a dramatic frame for an equestrian statue of the monarch. The Place de la Bourse is framed on one side by the Stock Exchange (the 'Bourse' that gives the square its name) and on the other side by a museum. During the French Revolution the bronze statue of Louis XV on horseback was dismantled and smelted down in 1792 and replaced by a “tree of liberty”. This was “uprooted” in 1828 during the French Restoration period under Charles X and replaced by a modest column shaped fountain. The present fountain by Louis Visconti was erected in 1869 and is known a the Three Graces (Empress Eugénie, Queen Victoria and Isabelle II of Espagne).

Excellent staff at reception. Rooms fine. Very convenient. Service staff using the guest lifts before check-out time causes a log jam with very long waits , but besides that, all good.
