"The hotel is close to the Rotterdam Train Station, and also nearby to an open mall, and some very nice eateries and shops. The buffet breakfast. 10 STARS, and the staff are truly customer oriented! Our room, although clean, was a NEGATIVE! First, NO LUGGAGE RACK (folding stand) in the room. NOR, IS THERE A SAFE FOR VALUABLES, or a REFRIGERATOR, or even a MICROWAVE. The open closet and a tiny shelf above the coffee and tea service is the only area (aside from the countertop in the bathroom) to store other essentials you need. Or, leave it all in your luggage. FORTUNATELY, THE BED AND PILLOWS WERE QUITE COMFORTABLE. THE BLOW DRYER IN THE BATHROOM WORKS FINE. 2ND MAJOR NEGATIVE: Elevators available, but some do not work, and the major one that goes to Floor 0 (Bottom floor that takes you to the entrance of the hotel or garage) was “IFFY!” Upon checking out (time was of the essence), we encountered this problem. The other operational elevator, WOULD NOT GO BELOW FLOOR 1. We encountered these issues during our stay. And that’s when, DAVID (A kind-hearted, dining room staff member) RESCUED US. The front desk clerk, was occupied. Stairs located by the front desk, but luggage impossible to carry by ourselves. David saw me running back and forth hoping to find someone to help? Upon hearing our problem, he grabbed our 2 suitcases and bolted down the stairs. We followed at his heels! He refused a tip, but agreed to a photo added to our review. Stay here ONLY for the STAFF & LOCAL."

"Without exception all employees were extremely pleasant and helpful. The person working security on the initial night of our 4 night stay went beyond the norm to show us to our room at midnight. She even suggested a safe place for our bicycles and helped us carry them. The next day Frank who is one of the first people a visitor encounters also went above and beyond by obtaining a luggage cart and loading our very heavy suitcase on it. All done with a cheerfullness that belies the effort it required. Finally, Gideon was a wonderful ambassador for the hotel. The visit was so exceptional that even though there are many other properties at which to stay in Rotterdam, the S.S. Rotterdam hotel will be my choice in the future."

"Awful experience. I booked this hotel based on the reviews, but I was completely misled. I ended up paying €150 for parking for less than three days because the staff were unable to help with parking at the hotel, despite parking being listed as one of the booking features. There was no daily water replenishment — only two tiny 200ml bottles provided for the entire stay. The breakfast was disappointing, and honestly, the price I paid did not reflect the experience that was advertised at all. I have stayed in many hotels, but this was by far the worst 4-star hotel I have experienced. I would never recommend it, nor would I ever return. The room was cold even with the heating turned on, and the hot water in the shower was temperamental. I booked the executive suite, but there was nothing “executive” about it. The carpet was visibly dirty, and the TV remote was filthy. The only positive part of the experience was that the staff were friendly and respectful, even though they were unable to resolve the issues during my stay."

"Location is good, close to Markthal, shopping street. Staff is helpful. Hotel is old and needs restoration like scratch marks on window pane and the rubber caulking is peeling off. Don't know what happened that Friday night. It seems cars were racing against each other. There were honking, backfiring, people shouting, yelling and went on till about 2am."

"Absolutely worthy for a 5 star rating! Staff was very accomodating and honoured our request of switching to a superior twin room from a superior double room. Clean and spacious room. Comfortable bed and size much wider than a typical "twin". Enjoyed our stay very much. "
