"The hotel is ideally situated as a base for walking around the sights of Ortigia and Siracusa. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable and the free water and soft drinks in the minibar were a bonus!
Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of food and drink and set us up for each day.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with special mention for those working at breakfast and on reception. Nothing was too much trouble and every breakfast request was delivered with speed and good grace."
"Wonderful location in Ortigia. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the sea. We could hear the waves at night. Be aware that there is no elevator; reception is one flight of stairs above the street and rooms above that. The staff helped us bring our luggage upstairs, however. There is no parking at the hotel. The public lot is about 500 meters away and it’s €25 a day."
Grand Hotel Des Ètrangers - The Leading Hotels of the World
8/10 Good
"We were a bit disappointed with our stay at Grand Hotel des Étrangers. While the hotel has been beautifully renovated and is in very good condition, it felt more like a generic luxury hotel and lacked the Sicilian character we were hoping for. The breakfast room also felt somewhat “hotel-like,” although the breakfast itself was delicious.
The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and we especially loved the pool, which was heated to a very comfortable 28°C. The spa was also lovely, although it was frustrating that we were only told about the beautiful recovery room after our treatments were finished and we had already changed. The outdoor rooftop bar was lovely as well with comfy couches and a great view.
There were a few downsides that made the stay feel overpriced for what we received. Parking at the hotel costs €50 per day, but we found the public Talete lot nearby for only €15. Our room was quite basic and very small, facing an alley where there was constant noise from dumpsters being emptied. For roughly $1,000 per night, we expected much more.
Another issue was the loud music from the beach club on the ground floor, especially in the late afternoon and evening. We’re also not convinced it’s worth paying a premium for a sea-view upgrade, as the views over Siracusa are pleasant but not particularly spectacular.
Overall, the hotel has some strong points, but for the price, we expected a more special and authentic experience."
"Good breakfast options. Staff worked hard to keep it full
Good dinner options as well
The pool area was lovely. Great place to spend a couple of hours
Lovely grounds, beautiful building
Bus stop right outside the hotel for easy access around the town and down to Ortigia
Couldn’t fault this hotel

"We loved our stay here: the breakfast was nice with a good variety of options; the air conditioning wasn't limited by the hotel staff like many properties in Italy seem to be; the staff were incredibly friendly - when we requested a pillow top for the bed they didn't have any so they went out and purchased one just so my partner would have a better night sleep! The apartment itself was very well equipped for our multi day stay, including a laundry machine and mini fridge. I am looking forward to my next trip to Siricusa so I can stay here again."
"Fantastic location, clean rooms and very friendly, helpful staff - this is a great option in Ortigia. The rooms are quiet without street noise and the staff were very helpful in organizing offsite, secure parking for our rental car.The room was missing a few amenities like a safe (there were instructions to use one), a few additional toiletries like body wash and conditioner, and an iron. Definitely add this one to your list of places to stay. "
"A small gem in Ortigia.
Although we booked a small double room without a view, it exceeded expectations. It featured a charming private courtyard—perfect for relaxing in the evening with a drink. The room was well-equipped with plenty of amenities, and the shower was excellent.
The location is unbeatable, just a stone’s throw from a lovely little beach. Breakfast was fantastic, with a great selection including plenty of gluten-free options.
Overall, a wonderful stay and definitely one to recommend."
